alternatives to a 2/4 post lift

Still won't get it high enough to allow working standing underneath it.

In fact for sensible home use I don't think it's possible.

My brother in law has a scissor ramp and it's good for wheel and bearing work but underside not much use.

The best way IMHO is to build a good solid version of the ramp with jacking rams that a guy on her shared his design with us.

Not really. I admit it's far better than nothing and I would be happy with that. But unless you have a ramp it still means lying on you back for some jobs..

If you're doing enough car repairs that you're needing a ramp/pit, you should ask yourself if you need to rent some garage space.
A council garage round here is about 10/12 quid a week?
Either that, or learn to say "no!"

the council garages around here are barely big enough to get a car in, let alone have space to lift it and work on it

here I wouldn't recommend doing it with a flimsy jack and must be on solid level ground and extra axle stands when lifted in stages . they used to sell them for jacks but no longer available

here I wouldn't recommend doing it with a flimsy jack and must be on solid level ground and extra axle stands when lifted in stages . they used to sell them for jacks but no longer available

that similar to the jack i use but i fear mine might be a bit newer, doesnt look as sturdy as yours but it will lift 3 ton. might have to get some pipe and make some of those adapters and some extra high axle stands...

the jacks an epco in mint condition ive had it 45 years bought second hand. I re sealed it last year blasted it and give it a coat of paint

ive got one almost identical, mine has a tray above the ram with screws to hold it on, it needs new seals, it has a fast lift piston which i blocked off as the high pressure piston wasnt as effective (needs fixing)

talking about a pit, I've got one, it's massive, used to have 27 ton trucks on it before I bought the place

I've used it a couple of times but didn't rate it at all, I'm tall so still had to crouch a bit, shorter guy working for me couldn't reach stuff... pain in the **** getting in/out to get tools etc...

filled it in now, going to get a ramp instead

I have a Bradbury Jackette only rated at 1.5 tons but it is big and lifts a car high enough to put ramps under the tyres and has quick lift to start it off.
