Wow, what a small world. That was probably my brother.
As a 12 yr old I had a crush on Mrs Iris Dixon ( approx. 24 yrs old ) she was always well dressed , always wore make up when out . One day she was out walking to her cousins 3 miles away & pushing her 4 month old baby in the pram . I stopped aghast , she had odd shoes on . Do I tell her or do I just say Hi and carry on delivering the papers ?Took my wife to hydrotherapy.
Went to a small market town, walked the high street twice, and entered a few shops.
Then went for lunch at a market garden, followed by a 4 mile walk over beautiful countryside.
Thought something doesn’t feel quite right.
Bent down to tie my laces.
Then realised I was wearing odd shoes
Nah I'll tell her as I'd hate to see her feel embarrassed .
" Hi , Mrs Dixon , hope you don't mind me saying this , but you have got odd shoes on " . She looked down , looking perplexed then the penny dropped . " Oh my god " she said , "Come here and stand in front of me ,then look at my feet .
I did just that and then felt terrible . her brand new shoes were made of a cream leather and a light tan leather down the middle ..looking from the side they looked like odd shoes . Later on that evening she came to see my mum & told her about the shoes , they cackled like a couple of hens on a warm sunny day .

Yesterday I went to cut the grass.
I opened the plastic petrol can and has a sniff, smelled of petrol not diesel, so tipped the lot in the mower.
When I went to put the cap on I discovered I had filled it up with water.
Some idiot (me) had filled the can with water to top something up probably about 6 months ago.
Drained it out, flushed it with fresh petrol, changed the inline filter and no harm done, but everything just takes longer now.

I had a £94 MSR multifuel burner for outdoor life it must have been over 15 years old , when we came here 23 years ago . I also had a petrol mower so always had a steel can of petrol out by the rear of the shed .
In 2007 I had a 24hr beach / rock fishing session planned with my sea angling pal Warren . Everything was checked off my loading list , filled up brand new a spare sig bottle of petrol , knowing there was a full one on the burner from being unused in our the last session a month earlier .
At 0200 hrs, in the morning I set up the MSR on some rocks, fired it up and started to heat a can of Spag Bol when the dam stove went out . . I tried everything to get it working as Warren was getting some decent late in the season bass . Ended up putting the spare sig bottle on still no joy .. we ate cold Spag Bol and drank cold water .
On getting home later that day I stripped the MSR down , the delivery pipe and stainless wire with it was rusted solid and bright orange .
Annoyed I emptied the sig bottle into a washed out coffee jar and was puzzled as to why there was almost 2 inches of water in the bottom of the jar . Did the same with the other Sig bottle ,pouring it into a litre glass preserving jar ,getting and got the same result .
Even more annoyed I started to empty the fuel can into plastic pop bottles and soon discovered a couple of pints of water in the bottles .
I couldn't think of how the situation arose , I sent it the MSR off for servicing knowing in my heart it was well and truly knackered . I got an email back saying sorry , spares for this model no longer available , but they offered me a new Whisper Lite one c/w spares & wind shield at just over half price which I eagerly accepted .
Run the clock on 16 years and my daughter had some of her former school friends over for a BBQ .
I get the Whisper Lite out fire it up and start using it along side the BBQ and commented on the peculiar case of my rusty trusty old MSR , the two lads opposite me suddenly went pale . I asked Mark the eldest of the brothers would he be honest with me , no come back from me .
" Mark " sheepishly said, " Yes it was me and my brother , we were playing soldiers down in the gardens , found your fuel can at the back of the shed and put two big jugs of water in it to sabotage the enemy .
Thank god it was so long ago a new MSR Whisper Lite is now almost £200
