A new bike build (picture heavy. Soon(tm))

After doing http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=27692 and then watching the wife drive over it in her Disco last month (badly bent but no broken welds ).

I decided it was time to get on with the next project. And so introduce you to the the donors :

A giant something, and a Kalaban wassit.

Time to strip them down. "can ya guess what it is yet?"

Right, stripping the back bike was easy enough. I had to cut a crank arm to get it off the BB axle, but the axle is fine. Here is getting the chain rings off the axle with my rarely used, but beloved puller. a couple of turns with a 19mm spanner and I have a good chain ring separated from a good axle.

Currently my best friend. Both bikes are somewhat knackered.

I better try and keep the 'conforms to BS6102/1/2/3 sticker. We want to be safe huh.

Seriously? The bottom of the headset. It didn't feel quiet as silky as I wanted . The top was fine.

I cannot get the cranks off the axle on the Giant since I cannot get the puller on properly. WD-40 and let it soak. If not heat. (Not that I have any way of doing that... Mayby the tig welder... Or call on Misters Black and decker and their ruggled little angle grinders.

I'm not sure on this bottom bracket. I presume It's just a more modern version of what I was used to as a kid and it taken out with an internal tool? Any advice/confirmation would be welcome. I kinda missed bottom brackets from the late 80's to Hollowtech II's.

The Black Bike just needs it's headset mounts removed, and it's fully stripped.. The giant (purple yoke) needs the same and It's BB removed.

Once all that's done it's take a picture or two of a mock up of what I'm planning.

To assist with the guesses not all parts will be used to create some cycling version of Frankenstien.


Once again someone has guessed right very early on. Twice now I note.

Rough mock up : The headstock removed from the bottom bike, the rear triangle from the Purple bike.

Strenthening around the Giant's head and some fettling to join the bikes. But again it a mock up.

Suggestions are welcome.

Although If I cannot the seat post out of the Giant, things may change. Heat tomorrow. Loads of it.
