Heated windscreen and aircon and heated seats on mine as standard....heated seats and heated screen quite an easy retrofit. Though I also fitted a side vent kit so the blower clears the drivers and passengers windows. Every challenge has a solution
By it for 2K, spend £15K restoring it and when you're done you'll have the finest £10K vehicle you've ever owned.
We have had 300k and twenty five years of service out of a 300tdi land rover, still going strong on the original drivetrain other than a gearbox rebuild and a second hand transfer box. That 90 and the unimog have been on the fleet longer than anything else and outlasted dozens of jap 4x4`s, not bad when you consider the thing has been a tow truck most of its working life. A bit needy on maintenance( rear crossmember) but a good solid workhorse that doesn't need any specialist equipment to keep it on the road. Not the sort of thing I would like to drive about in but it does its job very well and will carry on doing so for many years to come.
Bob
Chap i worked with had the same amount of miles, once sorted they are cheap to run
Yay !I have a 109 S3 Stationwagon 6 cilinder for 18 years now. Never driven it yet, but I did the crossmember, 4 outriggers and it still needs a new steeringbox, brakes, exhaust, minor bodyrepairs on 3 doors and a service on engine&drivetrain.
So it has only given me workjoy untill now, and it is always competing with my many other projects, but I still think to finish it in the future.
I am still glad I bought it, I want to die with memories not dreams.
I know many sensible people who only buy sensible things but not me.
are they ever sorted ??
again , ask a land rover owner what their next job is , they can always tell you whats next to fix .
Well given my history of jap 4x4s I'll stick to my high mileage series
You clearly do not appreciate why land rovers exist they are tractors with cabs plain and simple, mine tows and pulls better than anything else It was skidding heavy logs through awful terrain few days ago.
Unlike modern 4x4s off road and toughness come first comfort last.
Its a mini unimog to me, not a town car
you can get a small tractor that will do all of those jobs and a lot more ,, land rovers exist because once upon a time there were very limited choices , once upon a time folk worked with horses too , neither really have a place in a modern work place except for exceptional circumstances , but many will strive to stick to the old ways regardless , to each their own I guess.
be more comfy than a land roverOk I'll drive a tractor 80miles to a job then full with equipment
Think it very much depends upon what you want to do with it. It's not just the cost of a new chassis and the time needed to swap it all over but the million of bits that you need to do the job properly. By that I mean all the bolts, clips etc plus the overhaul of every component that you put back onto it. I certainly couldn't do a chassis swap without doing the full works on every bit otherwise all you have is a new chassis with lots of old bits on it that will then need replacing or overhauling. 2K euros is about right for just a ' vehicle identity' i.e. a log book and vehicle with a registration number so the owner might be spot on with their price. Looking at the general condition from the photos, it really does look like the sort of vehicle where everything is corroded or warn. Will be interested to hear your report after inspection. Petrol engines were alright for the Army years ago as we all bought their fuel for them but in a 110 very thirsty. They do have some benefits in the UK with regard to emissions but don't know if this is the same in France.
You supplied the engine didn't you Bob?Tuesday morning 11ish, I will see the vehicle in question and report back.
Thanks for all the thoughts.
Well see exactly how much of a rotter it is.
I've just been looking through @KimB s restoration, what was that four years and no shortage of time and money.
Someone here's sticking a Cummins in one too I seem to remember, can't quite think who..
Seem to remember he's struggling or was..
