It may just be the video but the belt off the cone pulls looks a little loose.

Could be, not sure how tight it should be. Also think it may not be straight going to have a look at this tomorrow.

Fixed the door switch it now cuts off the power when its open more than 90º .

Also realised that the back gear switch is not broken but screw actually has to be screwed in for it to work .

Its not pretty but much better than what it was.

In the pic below whats the brown piece for? and where should it go.

If it's just you using the lathe then there is probably not that much requirement for the school friendly safeties.
One thing I would say on the safety front is never leave the chuck key in. Ever.
And the second thing would be to never leave the chuck key in. Ever ever

The wee little brown bitty is the carriage stop. It goes on the front of the bed to the left usually of the saddle. It's stops the power feed crashing into the chuck. The power feed is on a clutch and will slip but don't rely on this with screw cutting as the half nuts will be engaged.

Switches:
Motor door, needs to be shut
Gear cover, needs to be shut
Rear saddle trip, acts as a traverse stop
Back gear lever, screw lifts switch to make circuit
foot switch - I don't have one anymore but may put one backinto the curcuit.

should be wired in series so if one is out they will stop the motor.

All working now the door is not working as it should be (does not cut power until open 90º) need to take another look at this. I cannot slide it any further forward as it touches the cabinet and machine will not start.

Will have to remember that, maybe i could make a chuck key holder if the key is not in the holder machine will not start.

Get in the habit of putting the key down before you start. The boxfords are a bit tight on the spindle with no clutch. But if you get in the habit of turning the chuck but hand first you'll not tend to leave the key in the chuck.
All my chucks have different keys. So making an interlock for the key wouldn't work if I changed the chuck. And you don't always use a chuck

I'm glad i did not paint it this has been more than enough work, and when you look at the pics of how she looked, she has scrubbed up nicely.

I have also adjusted the rear saddle stop cut out so the tool doesn't hit the chuck in normal machining.

Not looked at this yet don't even know where the saddle stop goes.

Need to get the belt on tomorrow, two links were cut should i just replace two or see how tight it is? Any tips on getting the belt on?

More questions .

The clamp lever on the tail stock. When locked should the handle be vertical? Maybe i've wound the nut up too far it locks completely at about 35º.

Normally they are a bit past vertical as you can get a bit more purchase pushing down on something than you can pushing up. Shouldn't really matter though on a small lathe as long as it is free sliding when released.

I also like it a bit past vertical for no other reason than I can tell at a glance if the tailstock is locked.

Does the headstock sit flush with the bed? Are there any other bolts apart from the two which clamp it to the bed?

I put my belt on from the top rear of the head stock. Its a real pain then the bahookie and I"ve got mine to re attach too, but its getting easier each time (3rd time now). Just make sure it is tight. And when I say tight I mean tight as a scotsmans sporran. if its even a little slack you will get slippage. When I got mine the belt was cut with a hacksaw, but I has 2 spare links, to replace the cut ones. So I assumed that these
needed adding and added them, but the belt slipped. I have taken out 4 links over the two belts, so I think it may be wise to remove some until you cant get it to join and then add one.
