Which begs the question . ...how did this guy come up with all the other faults? If the fan is cycling every few seconds then it's almost certainly the switch. It's not even getting to the ignition phase which precedes the opening of the gas valve.
The fan operating signal will need to be steady for a few seconds before the ignition cycle starts. If ignition fails the fan remains running and the ignition sequence is retried a number of times before lockout.
i was going to post about ignition system but it has pilot lightIf the fan is cycling every few seconds then it's almost certainly the switch. It's not even getting to the ignition phase which precedes the opening of the gas valve.

Well the missus rung him today, she said he seemed like a nice chap.
She wrote down what he said was wrong with it . ...it's a bit sketchy but basically-
Pcb is fine. pump is fine
Needs new thermocouple and new gas valve and because of this it also needs a new programmer clock ?
As I say it's sketchy but she wrote down what he said best she could .
Seadog , I tried firing it up. the fan clicks on for a few seconds then goes off....then it comes on again then off, so off and on continuously
I think he has said those are not working, which they wouldnt if the thermocouple was at fault or any other fault limiting the operation ?Which begs the question . ...how did this guy come up with all the other faults?
why would u want heating on without hot water.greedy man
It's not as simple as linking out the switch as the boiler checks the state of it
Don't wish to throw a spanner in the works here, but is it OK to work on gas appliances even if you're not actually touching the gas side of things, but just the electrics for example?
Hi it looks identical dobby, cheersIf your boiler is the same as a Potterton Profile it's the same as mine.
I had the exact same fault with the fan cutting in for a few seconds then stopping,
No click from the gas valve and no ignition.
I was sure it was the pressure switch as well but I happened to tap the pcb while it was trying to start and it fired up straight away!
It was the pcb with a dry joint somewhere, I couldn't find it so got a recon pcb for £35 from a place in Watford.
It works perfectly now.
Here's mine is it the same?

if people tell me they have 3 quotes I put the phone down on themHi it looks identical dobby, cheers
I'll be at hers in 10 minutes , il give it a check.
Another boiler bloke came today, with the idea of getting 3 quotes he also said it's knackered... then said he ain't giving a quone if we want a quote it's 45 quid? strange that, if I charged 45 quid to quote every gate or railing job I wouldn't actually have to make anything, just live off the quote money![]()
I personally have no problem when a customer says they are getting 3 quotes, if theyre spending a few grand of their hard earned its understandable that they want a few options. I sometimes get told I was the most expensive person but they chose me because they felt most at ease with me and felt I'd do the best job.if people tell me they have 3 quotes I put the phone down on themthey ring back and say did we get cut off . err no if u have 3 quotes u don't need mine bye
