I've just checked the gas used over the past few years, the readings are from July so only the gas cooker in use.
With back boiler fitted 12m³ and with modern condensing boiler 2m³ so quite a saving!.

sod this modern technology I'll stick with my inefficient but reliable Corcorde WRS boiler that was fitted in 1978. I did modify the plumbing and controls a few years ago so I can have the radiators and hot water on separately. originally it could only have the radiators working if the hot water cylinder was working too.

Well the missus rung him today, she said he seemed like a nice chap.
She wrote down what he said was wrong with it . ...it's a bit sketchy but basically-
Pcb is fine. pump is fine
Needs new thermocouple and new gas valve and because of this it also needs a new programmer clock ?
As I say it's sketchy but she wrote down what he said best she could .
Seadog , I tried firing it up. the fan clicks on for a few seconds then goes off....then it comes on again then off, so off and on continuously

universal thermocouple from screwfix says fits most boilers 8 pound odd

The gas valve is expensive though, there's a couple of models but without checking parts number they're between 150 to 250 plus vat.
I'd take a punt on a pressure switch for forty odd quid but if all them other bits need changing its gonna be over my head skills wise

I would have said that that was symptomatic of a faulty pressure switch. But of course it's not always easy to diagnose from a distance.
The only way to be certain without a spare is to bypass it, but if you're not comfortable with things electric then leave well alone.
It looks like a replacement switch is around the £60 mark.
Why it would need a thermocouple and a gas valve I don't know. I had a neighbour with a problem boiler. BG came and went, three times. The last visit a supervisor came along too. Their diagnosis was a faulty gas valve and said "it's an old boiler so we can't get spares, let us sell you new one etc."
I went in to have a look and within 25 minutes had it fixed. It was a dry joint on the PCB for the gas solenoid relay.
The only way to be certain without a spare is to bypass it, but if you're not comfortable with things electric then leave well alone.

last gas valve I bought was fitted in someone's boiler and they paid over a ton for it. 4 weeks later they had a new boiler fitted and the plumber sold me it for 25 quid

i dont get how he arrived at those 3 faults with the boiler not firing up, why a new programmer for a start ? was the programmer woking ok ? it maybe he's not sure so picked 3 things, has he capped the boiler off from the gas supply if not its not leaking and not operating anyway due to the fault

a pressure switch will be easy to test or like you say bypass so i wouldnt buy one until its proved to need one

bypass[ the pressure switch and link out the clock temp then see where u go from there

nothing wrong with that don't put yourself downA lot of this is over my head fellas....I'm handy around the house generally but zero experience on boiler related stuff.
Just a thicko welder basically
no one knows everything even though a few think they do I know nothing . then no one asks u to do owt for themnormspanners

I am no expert on modern boilers but seems a lot to replace for a system that has had NO issues a few days ago.
surely if the thermocouple was at fault it would stop the gas valve operating anyway and the only way to test gas valve would be to have an operating thermocouple?
pressure valve would be easy to test surely.

I've had faulty pressure switches that metered out OK with me sucking on the tube. However they wouldn't work in the boiler, hence my statement that you need to swap out if you don't understand how to bypass it.
