Audi dwiesel tappet noise..

Can you give any pointers into doing this @scotb

have had two apparently fully overhaulled engines which once fitted have run for 10k then started tapping,after a new pump fitted under warranty the noise disappeared. and the reconditioner even admitted the pump was the original pump that had been checked and overhaulled to vw spec and refitted to the overhaulled engine-and to those who are about to ask,no the engine never failed on oil pressure before being overhaulled.however never had any probs with 1.6,1.9,2.0 or 2.5 engines,just the 2.4 strangely enough.

Ok fair enough,
I actually have the ..2.5 tdi Ael engine,as fitted to the early v70

You may not have to change the pump though, just check the pressure -------as you should have days ago
it could be a faulty valve /spring.
How was the engine re white smoke after trying different timing marks.?

Chance would be a fine thing..

ive found out the valve is behind the oil light pressre switch ,
will whip it out tonight,
