Drilling holes in metal bigger than 13mm?

They look to be very useful..... what kind of money is the set?

I bought a set the other week to replace a set that had broken cutters and it was around £20-£30.

A few sites list them for £130 ...i'll try to find where i bought it.

The shank is normally about 13mm but the actual drill sizes go fairly big, I know I've got a 19mm and I think I've got one that's 22mm.
Not recommended to be used hand-held though.

I have done s fair few 17 mm with hand drill but can't remember bigger

Ive used a 22mm bit on a steel to get 4 bolt holes in with a battery powered drill , couldnt get the mag drill in , took a while and a bit of oil but got there in the end

shank is smaller than 13mm more like 10mm

I think the set i bought was probably priced wrongly and i got it very cheap as they seem to be around £100.

50x50 box with 4mm wall so mag drill and rotorbrotch drill bits?

If its 50mm box you will probably need to fab up a jig to locate and hold down onto the box with a clamp, if it grabs on the way through the mag may not hold on 50mm box x 4mm wall.

What brand mag drill should I go for its occasional use only when making gates for the threaded eyes

Have a search there was a discussion about them recently but i cant find it at the moment.
I have a big old Makita it's heavy but good.
I repair a few for local fabricators mixed makes all have good and bad points.
I haven't heard may good comments on the evolution ones if that helps.

If your only using it occasionally keep an eye open on eBay they come up fairly often.

If you get a mag drill, these are good on thin stuff like the 4mm wall. I've got a few of the three step ones.

So if I use a step drill on this box it won't fly off and kill me if I take it steady?

Mitcel the rota broach bits Im refering to will do your job no problem with a hand drill they are a tank cutter really with a 6mm centre bit

They're OK as long as you're not doing too many holes, the GJhall brand in the link are good quality.

Hi guys I went to local welding supply place bought a hole saw and Arb made by abracs snapped first arb drill bit but now got the hang of it using the cutting oil you spray on to

into a hand drill and drilling the hole?

or are you on about a blacksmiths drill bit..

no they are made specifically to go in a hand drill they have a 6mm drill bit instead of the centre pin !

that id be called a hole saw.

a broach cutter is for a mag drill.

no mate its a tct rotabroach tct cutter ! it does the same thing as a tank cutter have a look in ( orbital fasteners)
