A bit of excitement today

They have just renovated the fire station in queensferry it has taken months and was completely stripped out and refitted and re fronted etc etc the engines were not there for the complete time it must have cost mega bucks BUT it is not bigger or anything it just looks a little better, surely the money would have been better spent on more crew and another appliance!

they have completely rebuild the one closest to me but half the size

its probably because- of the money they fork out for top brass fat-cat pensions just like the police thats where the cash is going and there making cuts starting at the bottom wifey worked for the police for years and seen it all then got s..hit on

here is the original 6 bay station reduced to 3 at some point

next is the rear of the old station with a tower for training and the rusty steel construction was for training to fight fire on ships, all now gone

Even he admitted even the car crashes are never that major they are built a lot stronger with more protection. He has only seen one person killed in a crash and that was because he had a heart attack and nothing to do with the crash. The biggest problem the fire service has and in his words boredom, you can only sweep the yard so many times.

Love the green eyed jealous monsters coming out. Most brigades no longer have beds. Why would you want a knackered firefighter trying to save your family..........What makes me laugh the most is I hear this all the time but don't see them joining up...

But what you said is no longer true. Blenkie1 was actually totally incorrect about pensions. In fact many have been sold a pension and 10 years before retirement told they are having to work an extra 10 to 15 years depending how old they are now.

My comment was because whatever people think about the fire service response times like this will become the norm soon......I think people deserve to know the truth as many fire are actually caused by welders and welding.

What area is that. ..many brigades have live firehouses. Although a lot are closing them as they can't afford to keep them running. So it does not surprise me....

Mainly London fire brigade but Surrey and Sussex as well.

If my memory serves me correctly the place up top for training to fight ship fire was used to train sea farers etc passing through hull, all cities that had nautical colleges had one. But as the shipping industry has shrunk so has demand for sea farer training.

As for fire fighters having a cushy job, yes they maydo, until they have to don a ba set and go in, feel their way round, not knowing if the floor will hold, or what is in their way. Not for the faint hearted. Personally speaking i think they are under paid and under valued. Till the day you need them

Cue fire brigade who look at it and decided to just let it burn as long as it did not encroach on the farm house they were happy to let it burn to the ground. One angry farmer deceided to take matters into his own hands get into the tractor and start taking the burning bales out of the shed and save the the shed himself. All the locals came out to help while the fireman stood although they did try to stop us. Result one saved shed and embarrassed fireman

Yes I agree with you they have got a dangerous job to do at times but like my friend said he has never been to a major fire. All he does is twist to me how hard they have it and pay and conditions are not what they are used. He has told me he will retire at 50 more than likely fitter than me when I was 30.

last year i did a callout to a block of flats to reset the fire alarm system and check any damaged electrics - there was 4 engines there and the fire chief in his car all standing around i went in , some idiot had set a little box of firelighters at -someones door and burnt the carpet and scorched the door fire chief strutting his stuff getting --angry that there was no one to-- get in touch with till the next morning and had a go at me wanting my bosses number ,i havent got a boss and i havent the guys number i do the callouts for thats what he pays me for make my own desicions . admittedly some of there jobs are dangerous but so are ours on building sites falling off ladders and roofs and nearly getting electrucuted is no fun

In Teesside we have a 'small fires unit'; it's a Merc Sprinter. Painted blue

Not far from my pad is the local fire house; it has 5 bays but only two ever have an appliance in them now; one has a mobile climbing wall...

Clay Cross has it's own fire station with retained firemen but they didn't get the call by the look of it. No-one was at risk from the fire and Chesterfield got there in time to fire some powder at the remains. I'll have a walk round in a bit and see what damage it did to the road.

As I said he is a liar or retained.

Brigade policy on firefighting action is set by senior officers. There are many times when firefighters are forced to adopt an approach they don't like because of management. Many of whom did not spend more than an hour or two fighting fires before they were promoted.

I am sure many people on here will understand that even if they work in other industries.

Sadly saving property has become less and less of a priority for the high flying common sense lacking upper tier management etc.
