A very good option for coating engine parts is Kalgard Gun Kote, originally developed for the US military, and as well as looking good cosmetically also helps with heat dissipation. Not really a DIY option though, as needs very careful prep and needs to be oven baked.

Thought I replied to this, did a CBX550F back in the mid 80's the same way and it was fine 15 years later when I serviced it for the guy who bought it off me, still very shiny black. I think Hammerite have changed the ingredients since then as some of the results in recent years have not been so good.

pre Xmas update on the build.

Got the rear caliper mounted, chain and sprockets on, gear selector and linkages with one of my trademark washers .
Rebuilt the front brake calipers then got those mounted.
Battery box in.....

its taking a bit longer than planned due to making spacers,washers, pins etc which I'd temporarily fabricated during mock-up..................getting closer to wiring, which I'm not looking forward to

Thanks.....................yeah, worse thing is its got no loom !!! the original one was rotten, plus I've got an aftermarket ignition system and instruments.......so I've got to create one from scratch..........

I hope so, it was painted by a bike paint specilaist, who only does bikes....

Thanks norm, engineering is engineering no what the mode of transport. i enjoy watching John Doubleboost's video's at the steam fairs he goes too even though I'm not a steam person...

Managed to get a few more pre Xmas hours on the bike.

Go the rear brake master cylinder mounted, and the caliper plumbed in.

Also since the tank has been painted I've been waking up in cold sweats worrying about pin-hole leaks. Those who've been following the build will remember the terrible state of the tank and the amount of remedial work i had to do. I did pressure test it several times, and it passed ok, but for peace of mind and to prevent any future issues, I'm going belt and braces and decided to line the tank as well. I bought a POR-15 tank liner kit, and am in the process of applying it. Whilst the chemicals were doing their thing I had to find somewhere for the tank to sit, so couldn't resist putting it on the frame for the first time....

I'm happy I changed the colour scheme now as it looks better with the black
