Hi guys. Bumpkins thread about tractors.....!!!

Dave do you know where I can get me hands on some brackets for the door mirror on the massey 3090. Prefer mail order!

You do have to be careful as you would with any starting handle - don't grasp the handle in a fist, cup it in your hand with your thumb the same side as your fingers. Then if it does kick back it will just fly out of your hand rather than trying to take your thumb with it.

I had a winding handel on my old landy.... first time it bounced i was a bit too close and it caught me in a particular spot below my stomach. I never tried it again and always either bump started or on the key!

Thats the good thing with petrol engines, you can just turn them over a bit before starting if they've stood for a while!

As for mirror brackets, have you had a look in "tractor and machinery" magazine or there's a company called "old 20 parts company" where we used to get some of the stuff for the fergie, think they also sell MF as well. Not sure if they're mail order, ebay maybe another good place to look, they do say you can get almost anything on there!

Why is it that something designed solely as a workhorse has so many enthusiasts?The older they are the more popular they seem to be Theres just something about them.I've been toying with the idea myself of a mini or compact tractor as a project.(Too much looking at other forums) I really fancy building one trouble is justifying owning one even if it is a little 'un.My 20m2 front concrete yard doesnt exactly need much cultivation and I cant see me being too popular taking a plough to the back garden

Maybe if I get a couple of chickens that sort of makes me a farmer and farmers have tractors.........

It's almost impossible to justify owning anything mechanical, so why bother trying? Take all those car enthusiasts as an example - very few of the older restored cars are used as an everyday drive. They come out on special occasions and sunny days - same with 'bikes (my other weakness).

A tractor was built to work and get dirty, they are functional with a hint of styling, relatively simple to work on and really quite difficult to break. All of the steelwork is a sensible thickness, so can be easily welded, and the major structure is very thick cast iron so rust is not usually a major problem. Most parts are readily available for the more popular models, some of which are still in everyday use, and a lot of parts are interchangeable ie the three and four cylinder Perkins diesels were used in various tractors.

What more could anyone possibly want? Go on, you know it makes sense ...

I'd love a Grey Fergie - it was the first tractor I ever saw and like so many mechanical icons it's its simplicity and lines that make it so appealing.

If your a concrete farmer maby you should look at tractor pulling comps! Great fun and you endlessly have to repair the tractor lots of welding!

Tractors are like drugs once you start you just want more!!!!!

guilty, It was certainly commented on the day, about the lack of dirt grime, and removed perma stubble, and the suit not being prebane treated Mind that was 7 years ago and I don't think its happened scince... and
