paslode the 90mm nails in for the roof trusses is the way my joiner brother does them even on dormer roofs and hip roofs

ive followed the same and done it with my shed as well and other roofs including the fire damaged roof as that was the hip roof with my paslode nail gun being used as his was pinched from the van

Perhaps I M fussy. I dont have access to paslode for 10 days now. But not a big fan of nails.

Just can't locate treated screws with a dome head.

Those twisted straps look like mickey mouse bent them.....awful things.

Are these any good ? .. I've use loads of them in wood , steel and plastics as the hex heads are much better than phillips , pozi or slot heads etc etc. They are also a quality plated steel as well . The go well into the correct sized plastic wall plug or brick & block work .

I managed to get what I was after. Also got a crack on today.

Are you going to put anti twist noggins in between the joists to stop the joists twisting in damp or prolonged dry weather and tearing free of the boards ?


Perhaps paint your walls beams & ceiling with a sprayed on bright white external render paint BEFORE you start putting in the electrics or any equipment ..

The reflected light makes a massive improvement and it's an absolute PIA to do with a brush when there is the power & equipment in the place.... guess how I know ?

Yes I had intended doing so. It's just a case of knowing how many I need.

I had intended rendering the walls and painting before I get anything in but was not sure if I could spray emulsion...lol

I have also now got the chipboard to board out the ceiling but need to wait until I can afford some insulation ....

I am so pleased I have beaten the weather and dodged the storms but is has meant a few people who have paid for packs of bolts are having to wait a bit longer for delivery.

I'd put the noggins slightly staggered along the outer edges of internal walls between every joist and a staggered row right down the middle .
To fit them solidly in place I'd use two 4 or 6 inch nails or screws at each end of the noggin knocked or screwed through the joists to hold them square in place
Others may have a different idea such as using loads & loads of herringbone struts or perhaps some thing quite different .

I have already put a noggin along the outer walls. Although they are not staggered they are for the barge board to screw to...couple more staggered rows will be easy enough to fit though.

The barge boards are usually just skew nailed in to the ends of the joists on a flat roof with oval nails .
It there is any access to the inner part of the roof after you line it , make the barge boards a good fit ... sealing the barge to the brick work where needed as honey bees just love flat roof's with nice & easy access to the sun warmed voids
I've removed a heck of a lot of feral honey bee nests out of flat roofs in houses , kitchens , bathrooms , offices and sheds etc. over the years.

noggins to be placed every 2ft or half an 8x4 sheet

looking loverly just with the osb on top supposed to be rain monday so consider sheeting it tonight if gets da,p or wet under sheet we normaly dry it quickly with torch on felt gun before installing torch on felt

Go to the industrial paint supplier places .I have a Dulux Paint Centre and a Johnsons Paint Centre ( within 18 miles of me ) to choose from.
The guys in there are old timers with the companies , with a lot of useful knowledge knowledge , there is often old stock for sale at good prices .
They would be my first port of call for advice & what's available & if it's spray-able etc.

When I wanted to buy 14 x 5 litre cans of external render paint to get the bungalow done in a butter cream colour , I went to the Johnsons place got an end of line formulation that they added colouring to , it was about half the price of the B&Q / Homebase places and about 1/4 cheaper than the DULUX shop .

AH slightly late now mate I picked up 10 litres of super smooth sandytex for 35 quid. I thought I could crack on today but I forgot I have the floor to lay and I was in for a big shock this morning . I am hoping it will be solved when I have the roof and guttering on but I was unable to get at the outside of the one wall and it left ragged mortar.....I think this has grabbed the water coming off the roof and it's seeped through the block walls. Bit depressed this morning together with what I think is a trapped nerve (although many say that they don't exist and are purely inflamed areas that affect the nerve. )

Bloody painful whatever it is. My back and neck and pins and needs all down my right arm. 8 am pretty sure it's some muscles I have been over using as I have the pins and needles identical in my left hand . Both hands I can't bend my middle fingers when I wake up until I am in the shower then they are find all day.

Anyways thanks for the advice on paint I hope sandtex is a good make.

Dont forget the 1st coat of paint straight onto new brickwork or render should be a 50/50 mix with water (given its water based) otherwise iff you put it straight on out the tin it will peel off,1st coat is to seal it and can be any cheap emulsion based paint.

LOL...when you have to wade through 6" right upto step height you start worrying. It will all dry out once the roof and gutters are on. Anything built without a cavity ie..single 4" walls can be a bitt un-nerving when water seeps through,as in my post further up you must make sure its well rendered and painted properely as thats your only defence against the weather without a cavity
