I'd just go for the cummins 6bt conversion and if you wanted to go wild put a pair of mog portals underneath. If going for the 6bt remember to use the spicer box as a 6bt will chew an lt77 or a r380 to pieces!

Yup used to race but hurt myself and got bored.

6x6 is an absolute pig to work out, you need to figure a way of transmitting drive through the second diff to the 3rd. It is doable but expensive! Even a lot of the tacr 2 were 6x4

I know I would love a 6x6 but if not a 6x4 with a raisable rear axle would be pretty awesome at least I think so :P
I have made gears before and maybe could make a 1:1 rear transfer box with the right tools, one of my college projects I made a gear to remove a die holder off a 700ton press.

Hell of a lot of work for no real gain other than upping your carrying weight tho! Cummins is the way, our mate has a 130 with one in and it's an absolute animal

It is but I'd love one, both my bf and I love them , I think I could make a transfer box over a period of time too, be a bit of a copy of the convention kits you can buy at the moment but It'd be a one off for my car

Try and find a scrap tacr 2? I'm sure I've seen an article somewhere on building a 6x6, if I can find it I'll let you know. I have a disco 300 btw, spent ages chasing the rot, boot floor is now 3mm, the sills are 5mm box section, and I've got a spare tdi lump on the bench getting new seals etc ready to go in

There's someone on landyzone building a 6x6, think the blokes called tonks, don't think the threads been updated for a while but he was running air suspension and also widening the front to suit the back he was putting on it

Thanks and I had to, it's far to expensive and got boring, I still love bikes but prefer riding off road just a few times a year

Yeah not much point adding a third axle to only make the truck three wheel drive. Cross axle diff locks are the way to go for full traction. All the German / Austrian machines, Pinz, G wagen, Unimog, Haflinger, VW Syncro's seemed to be fitted with cross axle locks as standard.
