140mph on the clock on my BMW R1100, the curvy bit at the Ross end of the M50 felt bendy...

It's strange how motorways suddenly have corners instead of curves when you're going over 130!

Back in 1981 I was riding home from my GF’s place at 4.30 am on the M2, I had recently fitted a Janspeed Turbo to my GSX1100 and was keen to test it out. Well the motorway looked deserted so I went for it. Suddenly I saw a Rover Jam sandwich parked up ahead and I slammed on the anchors and rode past it at 70mph, a few moments later the jam sandwich was pulling me over. The very nice officer patiently explained to me that the Vascar radar trap worked by measuring the distance between 2 points and timing it. He then beckoned me over to the passenger seat and showed me a display with 142 on it and asked what speed i was doing when I went into the radar trap as my headlight dipped halfway through it. Knowing I was nicked I cockily replied “F*****d if I know the speedo stops at 140.

End result, £300 fine and a years enforced walking. Mind you, lesson learned the license has been clean since.

I use Strava for my commute and my personal best is around 32MPH. 44.3MPH is bloody scary! Were you worried at all?

I use Strava whenever I'm on my bike (24" single speed jump bike), AFAIK, my best is about 28MPH down a hill, doesn't sound that fast but sure felt it.

I am not sure it counts, but I once did 80mph sliding down the track at Lydden circuit after my bike and I parted company, it didn't hurt until I found the tyres.

110 mph on a ccm r30 at the TT
140 mph on a Ducati multistrada the year after , as you can tell I wasn't racing and on both occasions guys were passing me like I was stood still.
Never forget the feeling being stood at the bottom of braiy hill ( spelling ) as the bikes passed, awesome ; )

I was taking some top soil to a mate in ellesmere port with my nuffield tractor which in their day where high geared and did nearly 30 normally which felt fast , I was at the top of the hill on the, 50 limit, dual carriageway the A 494 known as Aston hill it was Sunday morning and coz there was not much traffic I thought I would knock it out of stick, well she started going quicker and quicker, if any of you know nuffield /leyland brakes you will appreciate what I am talking about they are brilliant at up to 10mph but after that when you touch them you dont know which way they are going to pull and steer you ( they only work on the back wheels) I dont know what speed I was doing I could not get it back in gear (I'M GLAD) and the brakes just wouldnt work, all was fine till a silly woman thought she would pull out of the side rd in front of me, well there was no way I was going to stop, so out in outside lane passed her and at that point another car pulled out so had to stay in the outside passing cars the limit is 50 but not many stick to it, most do 60/70, so I passed them all at an unknown speed, with me just hanging on, the tractor had no cab and the tipping trailer with 5'ish ton on was one I had made using a twin wheel transit axle and no brakes !! I have done some mad things and sat in rally cars at mad speeds but that was SCARY SCARY SCARY!!!
Me thinking thank flip I had fitted new tyres to the tractor!! it was about 2miles before I needed to put it back in gear to let the engine do some work !
Need less to say the next trip it stayed in gear.

We had an old Nuffield, 10/60 if I remember correctly. It had a split liner and sat in the yard for about 8 years till we moved. Scrap was at a good price so I arranged for the missus to tow it with my van and a rigid towbar with me sat on the tractor the 4 miles to the scrap yard.
I pumped up the tyres up and said to the missus "20-30mph Max", OK she said.
Now as the first mile and a half is narrow, single track, twisty country lanes I made the stupid assumption that she would crawl through the lanes until we got to the main road and then go 20-30mph.
No we turn out of our yard and straight up to 30mph, the steering is shot and needs 180deg of movement of the steering wheel before it affects the wheels, I have overinflated the tyres so I am bouncing all over the road and madly careering from hedge to hedge.
It was like trying to stay on a bucking bronco, I swear at times all four wheels were in the air!
No windows in the back of the van and me out of site of the wing mirrors, the missus with the bloody Wurzels on the stereo couldn't hear my shouts. Luckily when we finally got to the junction with the main road she had the good sense to stop and check if everything was all right, after that we decided 15mph was a safer speed!

Fastest I've tried running is about 70mph when my 350LC decided to do a tank slapper and chucked me off. I remember getting at least two steps in and avoided the kerb before hitting the deck in the gutter. Took 13 weeks to heal the gravel rash one of which was down to the bone. Nursey cleaned that up with a scrubbing brush!

Just checked my skitrack app on the phone, 57kph was the fastest I travelled on two planks of wood last winter.

I had 120 mph on the speedo in my Volvo 760 going down my local high street.

OK - the speedo came off another another model and read 4x too high.

I had similar with a new MG Maestro, speedo would get to 50 then shoot round to 130 had it changed at the first service then a couple of months later the new one did exactly the same.

OH YEH I forgot about that bit they all have similar shall we say vague steering, and the bouncing from having no suspension. Can you imagine doing twice that speed ( or more ). I dont like to even think about it.
Strange noise the tyres make at speed and the engine quite init ??

Well you should try a new'ish invention called ski's, if ya thought the planks was fast, they go like stink.

I came off in august off road, well I come off a bit to regularly but rarely do any damage, this was
one of my elbows, the other elbow was the same, my shoulder was the worst bit, I also went through
a gloove. and soil is a whole lot softer than tarmac.

Yeah you tend to come off a lot more off road but I would take my choice to if it was going to happen let it be off road.

I'm in my 40s now and take a lot more care, well just far less risks then when I was young.

Much like one of my girl friends nova's way back that had a 1 litre engine. The speedo was like a rev counter the speed it went up. You could get it to the end of the speedometer yet at best it was doing 80 with the wind behind it - you could tell that because you were still one of the slowest cars on the motorway.

38 miles an hour on a push bike weighing about 10kg....that feels like 1000 mph!

Same speed I hit down Ben Nevis on a (toy) mountain bike with no suspension
Certainly felt faster than the <unknown> speed I did on an airfield outside Selby in my ex-police 3.0 MV6 Omega Estate. Definitely on the rev limiter, tho (160ish?)
