Rebuilt a BDG for a rally lad in the early eighties
I was invited to a test day
I thought I could drive
I did not think it was possible to do things like that in a car (mk2 escort)
Silly isn't it! Was overtaken by a Porsche when I was doing 130, never saw him again
I used to like playing with porsches
50+mph on a push bike touring in the Picos De Europa, the mercedes and BMW drivers dont like being overtaken by a nutter on a mountain bike.
I remember thinking if I come at this speed? ah hell....
hadn't thought to rule the earths rotation out of this one![]()
This was in my 300tdi 90 after tuning. Being law abiding I pulled over before taking a picture but at least I had it documented

140mph on the clock on my BMW R1100, the curvy bit at the Ross end of the M50 felt bendy.

Yeah... that would hurt...i hope you mean come off.........
I regularly go down a short[a few hundred yards] section of steepish hill, The pic is a speed thing from a few years ago; I had about 30psi in the the bike's original 20 year old tyres.
If I have a gps with me I have between 44-49mph on that hill almost every time I come down it, it's only
a few hundred yards going down and then you have to get round a bend at whatever the max speed was, which is no problem unless there are cars to go past. I should try pedaling and see if I can get 50mph.

I do it every other day and don't even think about it.I use Strava for my commute and my personal best is around 32MPH. 44.3MPH is bloody scary! Were you worried at all?
no, my missus father was driving. the needle said 155, although I am nut sure how accurate it was. certainly felt fast, but very calm fast

Rowlocks to that; the Earth is whizzing around the sun at ~30 km/sec, around the centre of the milky way at ~220 km/sec and the Milky Way is departing from the central point at ~600 km/sec. (all courtesy of google and maths)hadn't thought to rule the earths rotation out of this one![]()
You wanna try coming off a push bike going flat out down a hill. It's happened twice to me on road race bikes and the feeling of hitting tarmac with no protection is pretty horrible.
