Just been to fill my car up at the local fuel station, 30.58 litres for £40.95...and its going up again by another 4 pence a litre at some point very soon.. I nearly had the urge to approach the cashier with my pants down at the ankles and ask once I'd paid, ''Can I pull my pants back up now?''

I brimmed my Audi A4 a couple of months back and it cost me something like £97 if I recall.
I genuinely looked underneath the car to see if it was coming out somewhere.

I think I'd be doing the same as you Mine is a rather old fiesta and the rather small tank (30 litre) and that would last me a little over 2 weeks of getting to work and trips to the off licence and other things.

I never knew that, It makes sense though, but at the same time having to stop, go in and pay, then resume filling your tank, is a bit of a pain.

Its time people all stood together and campaigned against these fuel rises, enough is enough. Some of these oil companies are making 4billion a year profit

One of my local filling (not) stations has had the pumps set £50 max delivery for the last four or five years. It was not too bad at first but these days £50 is only 1/2 a tank of diesel, I don't use them now, even if they are a penny or two cheaper it's just too much hassle having to go in and pay twice.

A couple of years ago we went to a garage on the way back from a camping trip and I put £20 in as it was plenty to get me home. I went in to pay and the girl on the till was in a flap as an articulated lorry had just filled up on another pump, his agency card had been rejected by the till and she could not take any more payments till it had cleared. He had put about £700 worth of fuel in. They eventually got a credit card number from his firm that worked to clear the till.

When I bought my car £36 filled the tank and now it's costing me £60 a tank and i use that each week to travel to work and back that's without any pleasure driving. I now hate owning a car and wish I had a job on my doorstep

As Ytre says, it would be a good idea, but the problems of the commitment and reliability of people lays a massive liability, for as we know many people will have a little moan about it, but will return to pay that amount again, and again. That's all we Brits do, moan and put up with it. If everyone (I mean everyone in the country) didn't buy petrol for 2 days, It would be a kick in the nads for the taxman, and the oil barons....Our voice will then be heard. Until then, we will continue to be robbed blind by them.

I put £23 of petrol in my Volvo last August and I'm still using it! Thanks to my bus-pass! It costs me more per mile driven in tax and insurance than petrol. In future I'll think I'll SORN it over winter.

Those lorries aren't cheap to fill... Our rather old Merc Atego recovery truck costs around 150 to fill from empty, and that only a 7.5 tonn

Hello,

don't blame the oil companies, it's the government that makes fuel so expensive. There is a point, probably past, where the increase does not bring any more revenue as people cut down.
By the way saying oil companies make X amount of profit is meaningless unless the turnover is also quoted, they may only be making 10% profit on turnover?

Just out of interest, while you moan about paying £7 odd for a gallon of fuel have any of you stopped to think how much a gallon of beer costs when you pour it down your necks on a Saturday night?

Got rid of my BMW 5 series m sport a few months ago and replaced it with a 1.2 clio, saving between £150 and £200 a month with the less fuel and tax.

The clio is carp to drive in comparison to the beamer but at those prices every month it was no brainer.

The oil companies do well to extract oil out of the ground at the price per litre they do, it amazes me how cheap it is when you think what actually has to be done to get it then process it so it's fit for use. The reason it's so expensive at the pumps is purely down to the criminals that run this country.

Why is diesel more expensive than petrol then? Once upon a time it was diesel that was cheaper than petrol and am sure on the continent this is still the case. Petrol takes a lot more refining than diesel so why dearer?

I like the older volvos, built to last, mine was a 2.0 petrol model with an amazing 43,000 miles on it, for 350 quid!
