brakes rebuilt and completely free... just like they where before. the proof is in the driving, when i take it for its retest.
That looks like a hydrostatic transmission. They are quite fragile and prone to failure. It is the reason most of them get scrapped because a new transmission is quite expensive.
If it has been leaking it is probably been run when low on oil. If it does work again it's likely that its days are numbered.
The oil was only leaking from the hole in the plug to the pressure head from the expansion tank, once it got to the same level but in the tube connecting it stopped leaking so thankfully not been run dry etc

WW2 gas welding equipment.
I got this th other week or month and I knew it would be a long job and frustrating.
The box was in a poor state, with damage, not related to the age.
The "Grey Dust you can see on the gas regulaters. Is not dust, but over spray, from when some one re painted the box.
The box it self, all the fixings were rusted, painted and damaged.
At some point some one has tried to use a Cold Galv finish, it was terible.
To save weight, un-necessary fixings. The nut and buts were fitted and the threads hammered to lock them in place. looks like some onee used heat to remove them. It did not work.
The new paint had loosened the old paint. here you can see the old holes being filled with cocktail stick and wood and sawdust glue. The heat I used from an Copper soldering iron could of meant the holes would not take the fixings on rebuild.
The main hinges were a bugger the remove, but we had them off.
As they should be, Chemicallys blacked. Not painted, not galv finish as Later versions of the design. It was after the end of WW" did they use paint etc. But in WW2 every cost saving was done.
Not all, some had been Tin plated, like here.
Every part had numbers on, of the Goverment Broard Arrow stamped on them.
Rebuild in process.

One of the many repairs.
The manufacture burnt in the numbers. There were many, even hidden under fixings.
The Non Ferrous metal cleaned up very well.
Frost Blackening kit was used on the metal parts.

Re varnished after the repair.
The delamination of the ply wood was repaired by glueing the loos parts down and in one case patching it.
All age related dents, ding and scatches were left.
Waxing the parts.
Flicking down through the photos then suddenly came to the final one. Heard myself say “Wow”. What a great job !

Ah ha - So that's what that "bike" spanner in my dad's tools was, that never fitted any bike I had as a kid!

Today I fixed a hole in the wall. Left the remains of the chute in place as part of the building's story. Will eventually become my new clean / machine shop, but a long way to go.

Spent ages fixing the string of LED's that go around the porch. It took less than a day for a squirrel to chew through the wires. I hope the little sod got his teeth burnt.By next christmas some of the bulbs will have failed

it works
fitted the fuse holder, trimmed and attached the condensate drain, charged it, tested it, nice and cold.
A few weeks ago being fed up with moisture getting into my supposed IP67 I/p security camera junction boxes I dried them thoroughly and injected the proper encapsulation goo to keep the rain out. I was annoyed a couple of days ago to see one camera displaying the typical fogged picture. Had a look at it yesterday and to my amusement saw the entire lens covered in what looked like a spider nest, compact and solid.
Poking it to clear it away it turned out to be a HUGE spider, big fat body bigger than my thumb nail with very fat but short legs.
Well that was an easier fix than I’d anticipated!
