Possibly, but the real damage will be when they insist they go all EV. But its ok we dint need farmers we can import all our food from South American to save the planet!

One of our local towns (to my dad, an hour away) has run out of petrol and diesel.

I did notice today less people driving like nutters.

Local news says some garage has hit two euros a litre for diesel, up over 25%.

In southern Germany by Elbsee thjrpough out the year and worse in spring & summer there is the stench of liquid cow slurry for a radius of close on 20km . The farmers have worked out that oxygenating the slurry quickly kills the pathogens that affect cows and after a set of scientific tyrests done on it to prove it is not harming the cows they spray the resultant high grade fertilizer over the grazing pastures . Then about 8 days later the cows are put on the fertilized pastures for grazing . It is very very successful , that's why Aldi , Lidl and other supermarkets could sell milk at below UK dairy production costs .

We could do the same or similar here and keep fertilizer costs for all farming down and also up the milk production along with beef production . This was difficult pre Brexit days as the EU had control of our farming . I don't know what the situation is now .
Another big problem is we have the Gentrified Towniefied countryside full of whingeing , bitching twerps who don't like naturals mells or workings of the countryside

I like my EV even better , Powerwall full by 12.00 hrs again , car fully charged by 15.30 .

Battery still supplying power at 21.15 tonight though ready for a cheap computer decided off peak uplift using hefty turbine power off the big Bewts ( SP? ) hill complex above Ammanford .

Some dairy farms are getting methane brewed in on farm tanks and using it to power gas converted machines. I recently read of a couple of farms actually collecting methane gas from the eves of their enclosed cattle sheds so all is not gloom and doom .

In Germany back in the mid 1970's learning even more German , I asked my German driver what were these half a dozen or more big tall black silo's at most farms . He said " Sewage Anlager fur Gas producktion ".

Every time I came home & on leave and after leaving HMF in 1980 I've been dismayed to see no farmers had taken up their ideas , which really makes us look like stone age farmers .

China is a massive used of cheap oil from any source ..I wonder if their long game is to keep using it and have the massive Gobi oil , coal & uranium deposits for themselves after oil etc. is difficult to get from the rest of the world ?

Muck is spread here. Also there are loads of micro generation plants on large farms, but they are expensive to build.

So they put in these large concrete tanks, pumps, etc. to spin a CAT spark ignited genset of maybe 100kw.
Engine heat is captured with even more tangles of piping and pumps to keep the digester working.

These would never get built without the taxpayer funding.

Farm near me has the same, I had a meeting and a tour a few months ago. Told me without subsidies it wouldn't work, (they wouldn't profit from it) so they promote self sufficiency but really, it's about the money

I had the diesel bug in the Unimog. Had to strip everything except the injection pump to get rid of it, but it had not been used for a long time (five years) and I believe it is only a problem if you have water (condensation) in the tank. One reason why fuel tanks are made of plastic, they are less prone to condensation.

Plant operator down the road from me always brims the machines at the end of the day to mitigate this. I can see how it matters if it's going to be parked up but on a machine drinking through 200l a day...

When I parked up the 6x6 whilst the block was being machined it was amazing how much water from condensation got into the tank and screwed up the petrol that was in there.

I mean seriously if the pumps ever did dry up and it was a choice of working or not working then i would have no issues at all in getting to work on the red stuff and winging it.

If you pay the duty on it it's even perfectly legal. Quite a few people around this way have done it in the past when there were fuel shortages. Fill up their vehicles from the farm tank and then pay HMRC the duty owed between red and white.

An old neighbour of my parents did that in a non fuel crisis as his wife went suddenly into labour and their vehicles were all low so rather than waste time at a fuel station shoved some in from the red tank on the farm, paid the duty. He then ironically got pulled over several weeks later and was dipped, he'd been carrying the receipts and acknowledgements of paying the duty just in case. They couldn't find any trace of it.

That does make sense but I'd neither heard nor thought of it. I suppose technically you could buy a drum of red and only notify/pay duty if or when you used any on the road?

Around here, red is not far short of white on price, so unless you are using lots, not worth the bother of buying it now. I only use it for the mini digger and steam cleaner, and in the tractor mowing a field a couple of times a year.

I was thinking more of availability and convenience rather than price TBH. Avoid the usual nonsense hen there's a 'shortage' where people form long queues at filling stations just to put £2:47 in to top off every opportunity that they get.

SWMBO used to run a petrol lightweight that was forever breaking down because of this. I had it when I used to run V8s too.

Need to have a decent inline water trap !

Another reason why I prefer diesel and a plastic fuel tanks.
