Yes, let me herd all 6 of our cats into the house and lock the catflap everytime someone leaves the parking area...
The ginger one (they are always "special" due to genetics I think) in particular hears a car start even if she's out hunting and pretty sure she looks who's driving to see if she can traumatise the driver or not because she never really bothers me and stays out of range of the gypo van.
My wife is very nervous about it and stops immediately and calls me to shoo the little ginger monster away, because she ran over one of our previous furry gang over one day when it had gone to sleep under the car near the front wheels. It survived somehow completely unscathed after a urgent trip to the vets with her meowing loudly but after used to hold its paw up to guilt her into giving it food. Sometimes not even the same paw...

If you dont like cats (and I do, and I dont have a rodent problem in my workshops and outbuildings as a result...), then extrapolate it to small children. And camper vans, and maybe not even your children or grandkids or responsibility etc, maybe theyre the feral ones that appear suddenly at every campsite and therefore someone elses ignored responsibility while your trying to back out a pitch with no spotter. There are many* recorded incidents every year of people reversing motorhomes over small children who wandered into the rear blind spot at the wrong moment. Our 34 year old ducato coachbuilt motorhome is a "classic" vehicle, and its equipped with a discreet rearview camera for this reason.


edit I just looked up the *number out of curosity, and apparently its 50 children a week get backed over in the US alone. No numbers for old people who presumeably cant get out the way fast enough in some cases, nor the people who just walk out suddenly behind a reversing car or van in the supermarket car park without a thought (but this last group at least deserved it anyway)...

edit I just looked up the *number out of curosity, and apparently its 50 children a week get backed over in the US alone. No numbers for old people who presumeably cant get out the way fast enough in some cases, nor the people who just walk out suddenly behind a reversing car or van in the supermarket car park without a thought (but this last group at least deserved it anyway)...

Don't know where you're finding your stats. ROSPA say 25 children 2001 - 2010, so quite a bit short of your "100 children a week". Even one's too many though.

I would be more than happy to fit sensors on my <new to me> vintage kei truck. But TBH if I went to all that effort for having power and data presumably with some sort of display, I'd want cameras.

If fact, truth be told, all round cameras, a front+rear dashcam for insurance purposes is increasingly going to be essential for all road users. Lots and lots of scam artists out there, brake testing, fake incidents with a stooge or just plain throwing themselves at your car to make a claim. It's an epidemic, not forgetting there are also many more road users who shouldn't be on the roads at all for all sorts of reasons.

So if I was going to investigate parking sensors, I'd definitely also incorporate photo sensors and stick a camera and DVR in there too! It would be a bit silly to go to all of that effort without making a tiny extra effort for the more essential gadget. At the end of the day, the gadgets themselves are super simple, plug and play. The technology is small, cheap and reliable. The BIGGEST cost and effort is installation so don't skimp on the easy bit.

Way back in 79 when i started driving, what was drummed into me from the instrutor(army) was, know what your driving,no matter how big or small it is,your mirrors will tell you everything,if you dont know your vehical you shouldn't be driving it tbh
