Almost all the gritter truck can be fitted with snow ploughs

On Tixover hill back in 1982 or 83 we had a big drop of snow almost 18 inches in three hours , I followed a gritter lorry going up Tixover backwards for almost five miles , so he could drive on a gritted surface .

HaHaHa.....Our "plow trucks" have dump bodies fitted (for year round usage) and they change out
the tailgate for winter, adding a screw conveyor and spinner. This dump body is sort of short, most are longer, have a triaxle in back (front axle in the back would be an air operated tag axle)

A front plow, note this one swings L&R, we don't use those much, have ones that cast to the right, note the horn shape on the last pix.

All kitted up with a nice wing plow as well. (kind of a short wing on this one, many up here are longer , each further out)

Here in the UK like yours the back and front on a lot of truck can be dismounted and the trucks used for other purposes some of the time but I seem to remember most of these truck are hired in when needed as it's not a regular annual occurrence to need them save for a few parts of Scotland . However things might be changing in that respect global warming effect going cold if you please.

I had an older friend, he did subcontract his truck to the state DOT back in the 1950's 1960's.
But now I don't see that at all, the DOT has large amounts of equipment.
