This what we’ve got round the house, on farmland so not so bad but roads are flooded badly. At leat with snow you can shift it to allow access. We’ve got to wait for the floods to go down by themselves

Loco's can ford water pretty deep if they are kept running, the traction motors are fan forced cooled
from a large blower up on the deck.

Due to the rain overnight there is a fair bit of water on the roads now though.

Before it all melts, make sure you make a dozen snowballs and place them in the back of your freezer.

So... Just one question..?

Why don't the metal wheels slip on metal rails - with a bit of snow and ice laying about - is it just the sheer weight of the loco that creates the traction...?

I really don't know allot about trains...! :doh:

Yup.
I've always wanted to place a piece of paper on the rail along with a carbon paper above it, when they set them down
on the rails with the crane, to see the area.

I would have to ask them to pick it back up a few inches for a minute or so to fetch the paper back out....

I think the snow ploughs used to have sand boxes that trickled or gently blew fine dry sand on the tracks immediately in front of the first wheels ????

B truck has 2 each (loco has 2 trucks) for a total of 4 axles
C truck has 3 each, for a total of 6 axles

Have not seen many B trucks in the last few years BTW.

Normal Loco's (freight & passenger) all have sanding systems.
Sand in hoppers, compressed air system to blow it onto the interface
between the wheel & track.
Wheel slip computer triggers the sanders automatically.
