I decided to break the mould and set a trend, so went for the 'late 50's bloke in overalls and petit lunette glasses complete with neck cord' look.

My mind read that as
"Bloke from the late 50s in brown cow gown warehouse coat with half moon glasses (peering over, for the use of)".

I have been sooo tempted to go full brown cow gown as my work attire. However wearing a boiler suit these days seems to be enough of a throwback so I'm sticking with that.

Get a cow gown so you can alternate!

Remember the cow gown should have a top pocket with a number of different coloured biros,
each of which has left a coloured inky trail on the material.

But I'd also have to get a flat cap, tweed trousers and wear a shirt & tie underneath. Preferably with a fag wobbling up and down from the corner of my mouth while describing some technical point in excruciating detail.

flat cap is optional, can be replaced with a comb-over !

I can see you wouldn't want to trespass on the style of certain other members of the forum ...

Unless I grow my 4rse hair really long a comb over isn't going to be an option.

A pipe would be better than a fag as you can use the stem to emphasize the technical points

Remember that company which wanted service and repairs to their welder gensets last year? Did one, they paid, collected it and I haven't heard from them since.

The driver just rocked up, said I've got a welder genset for you. He didn't know what it's in for, and I haven't heard from the company. Maybe someone will be in contact at some point?

Mostly, a highly robust plywood case has been made for my lapping plate, wot I did make on my shaper a few years back, from a slab of cast iron wot my Dear Old Pa did bequeath me.
You can get things fairly adequately flat, using that device....
