Replicating Lathe spindle nose

Finished machining the holes for the spindle adapter tonight , just need to work out a way to secure it now . Its a bayonet fitting on the lathe the studs and nuts pass through the nose then you rotate a ring so that you can tighten the nuts down on a narrower slot . I'm thinking of machining a pocket at the bottom of the adapter where i can slide in a U shaped washer and tighten down the nuts . Not ideal but at the moment the only way I think of.

Does it need through hole capacity? If you can block the bore without issue, your C-shapes could slide in radially.

Now might be good for a 3D printed version so you can design the back end to make the fixture do what you want.

Good point i need to think about that , I suppose most things that you would chuck up in the lathe that might need machining afterwards would be bigger than the bore anyway.

This a project I wanted to do mainly as a test of my ability and to learn about the process

It certainly would be a good idea to model it in 3d to see if practical to create a mechanism to allow the studs and bolts to pass through then slide something under the head of the bolt to tighten them on. I have an idea brewing using a cam theres probably a way to synchronize them but it would keep the slotted ends captive and i can just use bar on each one to move it into place. i need to 3d model it

the biggest issue is having enough room to insert a spanner with enough swing to tighten the nuts
