Abandoned project, my rotary phase converter. Now I've (nearly) got the electrics sorted, with a dedicated supply for it, I should be able to fire it up. Back from when the bench was clear...'ish:
What was different back then? That looks so much more organised and orderly. What's changed? Just wonder if you can pinpoint something to help?!

The tidy photos were taken November 2021. Tbh I don't recall it ever being super tidy or being able to do lots of work in there. I don't think having the 4 parents all old / ill then shuffle off in quick succession a few years ago helped.

I’ve got rid of the expensive stuff, welders, tig, etc, but there is boxes of consumables, sanding, grinding, screws, bolts etc, plus loads of separate hand tools, power tools.Getting rid of stuff of the clutter type should be like cleansing the soul and should involve forgeting its value...If you lot here found out what i skipped and scrapped the last 4 months i would be banned from this forum and pelted with carrier bags full of dog sht...There are a lot of things worth more than money and a hassle free clean sheet is one of them.

The combination of hoarding and depression means I cannot find things.
I have two pairs of specs; generally I can find one pair, but sometimes both go missing.
I made up a special test lead for my DMM last week. It's yellow and has an in-line 8A fuse and it's just for use on the 10A range (the third socket on many meters). I've put a piece of yellow tape around the 10A socket. The idea is to try and avoid blowing the expensive 11A fuse in my Fluke. The lead has disappeared without trace

Is yours a DIY job?
I was tidying my the electronics in my bedroom and came across a youview box that was broken. I suspected a faulty hdd.
They use a 2.5" laptop hdd. Remembering I had a few old laptops that have been dumped on me I did some stripping.
Out of 4 hdd's I got 2 that would boot up in a caddy linked to a laptop. Removed the partitions and did a format. One wasn't easy as Toshiba had protected the drive and it had to be done in cmd prompt.
This was the bigger drive of the 2 at 320 Gb but I couldn't get it to work in the pvr.
The other 250Gb drive worked no problem and I now have a spare pvr.
I kept going on the old laptops and stripped out the ram and batteries.
The batteries were dismantled and I've got 16 18650 cells that will be used for other projects.
The laptop shells will be going to the skip unless someone wants them listed in the freebies section here.
So from the laptops I gained 2 usable hdds, the strong magnets from the broken ones, 16 x 18650 cells, some ram, a now empty drawer in a cabinet plus a good feeling of getting rid of crap.

Yep, all you need is some drawer storage for fasteners...
...and a near infinite amount of free wall space to accomodate them. I had to change one of the conventional garage CH radiators to a vertical model to install that full rack of steel drawers that's almost out of shot

The question you have to ask yourself is: What purpose is, or ever will, some of that stuff serv(ing|e)?
The important thing is to have a system, and suitable labelling...
Don't you need it for gardening?
