Garage - Increasing Storage Space

eBay cheap 7 to 1 pulley set with crap rope ( ask how I know ? ) good for a 5m hoist , same in Temu IIRC was £7 and took3 weeks.

I've just to to go out and grab the engine hoist from up in the rafters the other side of the garage. Then do some woodwork up in the apex.

Not sure if I have any 40x40 box section mind...

Might have to knock a length up from some angle or just stick with the scaffold tube I'm already using.

Sit the tube on top of the cross braces and put a block of screwed & glued wood either side & add screwed & glued on end stops at either end .. means the cross braces keep full strength and you can remove the tube if needed.

Put two screwed & glued cross pieces either side of each truss for maximum strength. Bolting through so high up the truss may cause the wood to split when loaded up that's why I suggest glue & several long screws put in from both sides of the cross pieces that are 2.5 x the thickness of a truss ( assuming the cross pieces are the same thickness as your trusses .

Loadings on trusses not designed to carry loadings, might well lead to needing a new roof. Load down onto the walls could push them out. When the roof collapses make sure any evidence of the hoist is removed for the insurance claim!

OK, option 2, no hoist, No1 son as forced labour to help hoik the last 3 bigger bits up there. One Capri bonnet can perhaps go back on the S for now.

hes been warned and still wants to push it ignoring advice given

Just to note it was @Dapph2 's idea for the hoist at the apex. Not knocking him btw.

Nobody until now mentioned it wasn't a good idea over his couple of detailed posts.

If you went into the lofts of ordinary houses you'll find joists and rafters not designed for loadings piled high with junk and I don't see collapsed roofs everywhere when driving about, and I never heard of anyone being denied insurance claims because they had stuff in the loft either. I think that if it's his roof it's his choice and if people haven't got anything constructive to add they should just read on past instead of trying to embarrass members with hypothetical scenarios.

I'm only putting 4 doors and one maybe two bonnets up there. Spread over several trusses. The weight of what I'm lifting is circa 25kg. More of an aid to save my back than anything else.

I'm also reducing what's up there by the clear out.

If I did fit the hoist, as @Dapph2 did, I'd nowhere near be using at capacity, probably a 10th of what it can lift.
