Starting the "what did you get for Christmas" thread early

I agree with you, but thankfully for us we have a standing agreement with the whole family: Christmas presents only for kids and no-one else. Ever since we came to that arrangement I enjoy Christmas so much more - it's just a time when we all meet up and eat and drink, without any of the pressure that there was before.

Keep trying to tell my mother to go the same way but she will insist on turning up with (literal) sacks-ful of stuff for everyone, including the offspring of members of the family who are so far distant that they can't even know who she is. I wouldn't mind her including them if she didn't also do the same for me and my brothers who are far more well-off than she is.
Then she complains how expensive the gas is and sits with four coats on and a blanket over her, no heating on and the gas fire unlit

We do the same....we have a large Santa sack and guests can (optionally) contribute gifts (max value of £5)...we spend the evening playing games ....winners get a gift from the Santa sack each time.

We also do gifts for kids only.

At a quick count, I got four bottles of rum, a dozen beers, couple of bottles of wine, several chocolate oranges, tins of shortbread, socks, a few books, Bayliss & Harding shower gel etc. - and a bloody tax bill for unpaid interest on savings

My bloody van had a profitable xmas: I spent Boxing day fitting new timing belt, water pump, tensioner, idler, auxiliary belt and tensioner and an aircon condenser (that it may not have needed as I can't find a leak in the old one, but while I had that much of the front end apart it made sense to kill two birds)... plus air, oil and fuel filters and an oil change. Over £300 in parts (though I did bulk-buy the oil so that's the next three changes taken care of) - with luck that job won't need doing again, in the van's lifetime if not mine - it's just passed 170,000 miles.

Funnily enough I went looking to see if Brad(93?) had done his Connect belt (he was asking for torque settings a few weeks ago) but I can't seem to find any of his posts - at all!

I'd sooner I had nothing and they spent £20 on something they need.

I have the same issue. One relative (bless her for the thought though) buys me a bath set every year. This year though she went one better...

ive allways said to her the moneys no good for you when year dead and your getting older in 2 or 5 or 10years you might not be well enough to do any thing (this all said in a nice way trying to get her to just spend a few quid to have a good time while she is mobile enought but goes in 1 ear

Yep, same here.

Alas, I prefer not to smell like a hooah's handbag... Imperial Leather and Head&Shoulders does for the manky bits and if I need to smell nice for a lady, I let the lady buy me the aftershave

Mine's 82, still runs around after her sister who's 91.
We're hoping she can be independant as long as possible; she rattles around in a 1939 3-bed semi and can often be found wobbling on a stepladder, dusting cobwebs or trying to prune a bush that's overhanging next door's fence

Think the trial may have ended but worth looking into. There were Welsh locations too. As I understand you just go to the GP and ask. Similarly if it's ended maybe track down the team:

Sad, but should that not be “dis communicated”, as disconnected would suggest he was initially connected, as in welded to or hardwired to.

Didnt see the incident, but one might wonder if the dummy flys further and faster than the bullet. Shame a very knowledgeable chap.

Unexpectedly arriving today, was a vintage new-old-stock Swiss " Rally " watchband I found offered on that well known auction site. Purchased it to replace the leather band on an older Expedition watch I fancied. The two piece stainless band is of the same make ( Tissot ) as the band on the watch I wear daily. The watch should arrive next week.

The watch finally arrived, and I've replaced the leather band with the Rally band. Yeah, I'll be happy with this as another choice for daily use.
