well im downstairs...starting to regret my decision as i cannot get comfortable now, but i cant do another day laid up in bed.

I feel/know your pain, there's very little anyone can do for you, because you are so afraid to move atm, have you or your partner called the doctors for a home visit. You need proper prescribed pain relief and muscle relaxants.

then theres my mrs 91 year old grandmother, fell over cleaning, compalined of pain in her back and doctor said it was bruising, didnt go away so got an xray that she walked into and out of to be told she has fractured her spine in 2 places...she said oh ok, then walked to the cafe for a coffee

They don't make'em like they used too anymore.....

guy form work on my zoom course yesterday had heared i was laid up and said he did his back putting his socks on sat on the edge of the bed one morning, took 3 months before he could walk unaided and then another 8 weeks before he was back to jogging...

My mum had an X-ray for something back in the early 80's. They asked her when she had broken her back. I haven't was the reply. She had, seems the likely cause was a fall when she was in the Land Army! 1945!

my doctor is the joke of the city...they have always been bad but now we have a 'super surgery' where my doctors used to be...3 GPs surgeries in 1, a dentist and nhs physio...my doctors are the type that tell you to call at 0830 but by 0831 all the appointments are gone and flat refuse to let you book even a day in advance...my mrs is with the other surgery there adn they are amazing in comparison and im trying to get moved...my doctors keep leaving passive aggressive notes about how they are going to stop my asthma inhalers if i dont attent a review, but i work unpredictable hours so need to know when i can get an appointment to book a half day off, my boss has already said i can whenever i need and they wint even take a holiday for it as its medical...but the doctors wont give me anything other than for the day i call and im already booked on a job then...they wouldnt do a house call for my 90 year old grandmother with dementia when she had a water infection knowing that she couldnt get in or out of the car, just told us if it was urgent to go to a&e, otherwise we would have to get her there ourselves then suggested booking a taxi for her...

i am going to ride today out, if nothing changes i know a girl that used to do sports therapy massage for horsey people but then realised that only fans was going to earn her more in a month than she used to earn in a year, so she packed the massage in but i know she would probably sort me out with the added benefit that she is also my mrs friend so i dont have to explain anything

Sounds just like my Surgery.
Mrs is with one 6-miles away, & they are much, much better.

this is one of the things that is making me slightly angry with myself over this back issue, but also helped me in the hospital...

i am really good with pain, it generally doesnt bother me. i can feel it but its never stopped me doing anything. i crashed my bike at 17 resulting in a dislocated elbow, multiple fractures in forearm, shattered wrist and thumb, 3 broken bones in my hand, cracked kneecap, torn PCL, severed ACL, broken knee, 8 spiral fractures in my shin and a broken foot...i refused pain killers because i genuinely didnt want to waste them when i wasnt in that much pain, id rather someone that needed them had them. they eventually convinced me to have a morphine drip with a button, then gave me a row becasue i wasnt using it...i can sit in pain all day long without issue. that helped in hospital when they asked on the scale how bad was the pain and i said 8 while talking normally and not looking like i was in pain...so after the noticable looks between the nurses that clearly said i was just a junkie looking for meds i explained i had experienced what most would consier to be a 10 and it was in my notes...then all of a sudden things got taken seriously and they realised i was actually injured...

another instance, i sprained my (other, non broken) ankle a few years back, went up like a baloon immediately, thick black bruising within an hour...i walked into the hospital on it, they took me for xray then asked how long ago had i broken it? i hadnt as far as i knew...then they showed me the xray with a clearly defined and poorly healed fracture in my ankle...they esitmated it was a few years old and then i realised i had 'sprained it' back then too but literally just walked it off...ive also broken collar bones an dislocated shoulders and refused pain relief, got tit sorted then discharged myself from hospital to free up a bed becasue i refuse to take up space when someone more in need could have it.

so after all that, this is really starting to get to me that such a minor movement that ive done god knows how many times before has now resulted in my inability to move and one of the only times i cant actually cope with the pain.

Mine wasn't quite as long, I'd had an accident at work in the late 70's when I thought I had torn a muscle in my hip which kept me off work for a week and the union put a claim in for me, so I had to go for an X-ray in the early 80's where they found I'd actually fractured my pelvis!.

you got lucky with that...i attended an RTC back in 2018, my first police job after finishing training on a slide bed...bad crash, drunk driver had veered across on the exit of a bend at around 70mph in a 30, wiped out a car coming the other way...he was cut out by fire team, air ambo to hospital...we found out via the officer on scene that he died on route and that was then deemed to be compications from fractured pelvis

I'm falling apart need to loose 5kgs....
need a new knee...
shoulders r junk and lower back pain as well....
then today the consultant phoned to say I need an op on my heart.....
so decided to take up some exersise, TAI Chi or start with a chair work out for the over 70's....
anyone had a go ????
got 6 months to get fitter....

Frank I did Tia chi mainly from a chair , for almost a year before my left shoulder finally gave up the ghost forcing me to stop .
It did help me get some core strength back and reduced spinal injury pains . I still try to do it at home whilst sat on my Tempur mattress bed , but often I'm too far gone with muscle spasms to do much of the cat stretches laid flat at present .

Frank I did chair Tia chi mainly from a chair for almost a year before my left shoulder finally gave up the ghost forcing me to stop . it did help me get some core strength back and reduced spinal injury pains I still try to do it at home whilst sat on my Tempur bed but often I'm too far gone with muscle spasms at present .

in my younger days (12-18) i did kick boxing, but that threw up issues with injury and sprains etc, so while i was out of action for that i took up wing chun which although still a contact sport, gave much more scope for fluidity and more flexibilty that just kicking people in the head...i found that to help a lot with joint pain, but then after crashing the bike i never went back to any of it although (before this week) even at 18 stone i can still do the splits and kick higher than my own head height, albeit with slightly less perfect technique or power...and its always fun when some drunk buffoon that thinks they are bruce lee decides to grip you up on a night out only to get twisted up like a pretzel squealing like a littel girl thats lost a baloon in the wind. i enjoy embrassing people far more than fighting them now, although im never against proving a point if needed.

tai chi was always sold to me as the most lethal exercise you can do, and my wing chun instructor was pretty good at it...he used to demo it to the type that turned up thinking they were going to batter everyone to prove martial arts were pointless...little flick of the wrist, twist of the hip and a shoulder nudge and these lads were upside down, face first into the mat with their arms tied under their legs not knowing what had just happened. much more poetic than the hectic wing chun and more aimed at defense than offense.

One last thing if you're on cocodamol - make sure you take a laxative with them, otherwise you will know what childbirth feels like, been there etc..

Being anally impacted also puts pressure on the spinal spinal cord nerves , often I'd be in agony for days till various laxatives got me going again . Now I'd rather take the pain & sleeplessness for a week or so than go back on the constipation route of pain medicaments.

Oh I forgot ..

In April 1995 I paid £650 ( Barclay card ) for a private MRI requested by a private spinal specialist I was scanned in two hours of me seeing him at his practice away from the hospital. Well worth it for the next time I lost my legs , bladder & sphincter control When the A&E people looked at me & saw the scan that Alison had brough in to the hospital it was obvious there was a significant disc bulge pressing on my spinal cord . A Myelogram later along with a CT scan and the next day I was operated on .

The Myelogram was oil based Myodil & is thankfully no longer used as it has also caused me problems , neither are myelograms as the percentages of further injury within the spinal cord due to the oil & lumbar puncture was fairly high

Such MRI private scans are a lot cheaper these days some clinics also advertise for them

So Tai Chai was developed using every day tools and simple movements that built on each other to allow the labourers etc to be come lethal fighting weapons if they were called to do it . Seems this was the start of martial arts .

I wont be going back til i can walk without pain and even then ill be going back on light duties for a bit...

The most annoying thing though, is i had this afternoon off anyway because I was doing the welding table yesterday, and now my steel for my blacksmith to ga has arrived, the anvil is here, my thermocouple is here and the forge is set up ready to go, and I cant even think about doing anything with any of it for the foreseeable future

I've had to resort to making an alu frame with a sliding chain hoits on it to life even th lightesd of things on to my benches. Outside I have an 8 to one pulley set ( £7. 60 ) off Ali or Temu a few weeks ago ) and used 30m off a hank of 100m of rock climbing rope to string it . I've used three three m 125 high grade aircraft Alu tube as legs for it ..
It's been a blessing I can hoist 100 kg on it with ease and by wrapping the rope round the wooden stretchers at 1500 mm p can let the load hang in safety
The top of the tripod is a six inch equilateral triangle drilled 40 mm in from the points to ten mm dia then slightly upswept using the vice and a lump hammer . turned some spigots to interference fit in the top of the tubes and also tapped & fitted 10 mm studs in them , so when assembled a hole in the middle of the plate carries a 10 mm welded 60 mm dia eye bolt to hang the pulley set off.

have you got a solid table then lay on that with cushions from the settee as its more solid compared to the sofa

otherwise get trimmed board under the sofas cushions to stiffen them up

if your too low you have issues but if your above center height above the knee its also easier to push up to stand when you get your legs out of bed ...
