I'd imagine that most if not all of their target audience (white goods owners / look what I can afford types) won't recognise what the original car was.

What does it matter that the names get recycled, it's only a consumer product they're trying to sell? If the name helps then so be it.

I must be blind, the whole top half looks like a capri and with the lower blacked out panels the middle also looks like a capri, only the front and back doesn't.Does look like its had a seventies lift kit fitted though.

A combination of reasons, fashion and because people are generally becoming fatter, less fit and more lazy.

For example look at group photos of say a parents race at a school sports day in the late 70s, to the same photo this summer.

I never liked the original really after my Mum had several Mk3 Capris. Poor driving position, limited view out, back end too light, complete with cart springs, and a bonnet long enough for a 12 person banquet. Maybe the RS3100 at a push.

But this? Nothing even resembling the original, just another modern box that looks just like the next. Absolutely zero redeeming features.

Was behind a 1986 Capri 280 Brooklands this morning, heading into Edinburgh. Still beautiful. (unlike that modern yellow monstrosity).

That said, I dread to think what the Brooklands is worth now...

the capri is prob the only car thats not stupid priced that id like to own

The "Capri" most of you are referring to was already reusing a name from the original - see my earlier picture of a "classic"

I mean, from a company that had to pay a kit car maker to be able to use another name, as it was recycling/stealing that from another company, it's not that bad

They have and do - which is how I know about them, having only seen a handful over the years, not exactly being a Ford fan I haven't taken much notice though.

Still a recycled name, however you look at it - used on a car before the one people think about with rose tinted glasses.

I was amused to see a US version of the original recycled name version in the opening of "The Fall Guy" on legend channel today.

I had two Capris both were rust buckets even though they were probably only 10 years old , the 2 litre Ghia auto was lucky to get to 20mpg when a hose blew on the motorway i just kept going till i got home when i turned ignition off kept running for about a minute then never ran again was still ticking with heat 2hrs later from memory. Wasnt really sad to see it go infact other than how tail happy it was had more fun ripping the engine out with a hiab and seeing it get turned into a cube.

I had a black Capri 2.0S - PGE 442P - cost me £200!

Just checked the DVLA site and the last V5 change was 1986, which would be when I sold it aged 20 (me - the car would have been 11 years old by then).

It was a great car (albeit the rear suspension was made of jelly)

I did like the look of it and after a mk2 escort 1300 it was a definate improvement but since 1989 ive never owned a ford since that Capri
