Anyway, change of plan. That shaft is most likely welded in the drum as @Turbo said, so I'm going to leave it there as the thread in the drum was probably well worn before the welding.

I'll make a new centre for the gear wheel, thread it so it is a tight fit on the shaft thread, locktite it on and maybe put a roll pin through new centre and the hole that someone put through the shaft. I'm sorry now that I welded that plate on but it will come off.

I borrowed this army surplus rig, and spent a fair amount of time fixxing on it.
1 Cubic yard capacity....

A batcher plant. Great machine but a lot to go wrong when it is old and worn.

I don't suppose you can remember what rpm the motor is can you?

No, but I'll have a look tomorrow.

Thanks, but no problem, I'm going to change the motor to a 1420 one. I think the 2800rpm one that came off is too fast for that old mixer. It may have been a replacement motor for the newer Belle mixers, I dunno

So, we move on to making a centre for the gear



Threaded the thick washer for 2 allen bolts, sandwiched the gear between, added 2 roll pins and a couple of tacks of weld for good measure.


Now I need to bore and thread the centre hole, maybe tomorrow.
This is taking more time than expected.
