Trimmer cord, 225m roll of it!

I bought the Makita brushcutter attachment last month and been very impressed how well the 2mm cord lasts and cuts, getting most of a large garden between each bump unless I hit something silly. Eventually I will need more and may aswell get a big roll, and go up a size for even better durability

I've done a lot with Stihl trimmers and Stihl cord when I worked on rail and the council grass team. This stuff (or atleast the green 2mm thats currently fitted) is significantly better.

I've just ordered a few bits to build three band pass filters for my radios. I could have bought them from AliExpress for £30 a go but I would rather try making my own.
It is sort of what the hobby is about
Whether they work or not, I will do a thread on them as I know there are other amateurs on here.

Thread 'Slip rolls. Again...'

This has been a little bit of a slow project, but I want to document it before I forget half of what I've done.

I'm attempting to create a set of slip rolls that will roll 1.6mm stainless. The requirement is needed for another stalled project of mine. I need to roll and weld a truncated stainless cone. I require accuracy and decent fit up to aid my shoddy TIG welding. The thicker than necessary gauge thickness is also specified to help make the welding easier too. I already own a set of homemade slip rolls. They use inch and half by quarter inch wall tube with 12 mm spigots into 20mm...

Modern mercedes cars can have coil over suspension. I've never needed that type of compressor until recent years. Then a large manual one I had for mcpherson struts struggled the time I had to use it. Metal shavings and not good, got the job done but sketchy.

So whilst I dont need it right now ill need it sometime and went ahead and ordered this one

I'm also in the market for 1 like that, few weekends back I had to change the coil springs on the wife's Sandero. Both sets of spring compressors I have couldn't do it. Quick FB Marketplace search and there was one in Bristol for £60, only listed for about 6hrs but sadly it was sold

Did find a guy locally who was charging £15 per spring so he got my money instead

Still look occasionally on FB but they are all more money than what you paid for that

Thats a very good price if it avoids going near a big spring compressor! The idea of them terrifies me. How often does anyone need to mess with springs...?

Broken springs at the ends are a common mot failure. Some models more than others. So the average saloon car can end up needing springs replaced in pairs every 5 or 6 years if inspected and correctly repaired. If one is damaged they must be replaced in pairs on an axle. Other cars may go for decades without a broken spring. So it varies alot on the car, mileage and environment.

Car springs which terrify me are mercedes w140s. Gigantic springs about 1.5 feet long and over a cm thick. Serious energy in them and I have had the internal compressors let go on them before. As I restore the cars I am renewing the springs and struts etc. Otherwise I would not disturb them at all.
