My cousin is visiting from 200 miles away,with his school friend,he’s had the mk3 from new,it got hit up the back in ‘81,bought it back for a tenner and vowed to return it to the road,which he did two years ago,he and his friend had a10’s in the sixties,his friend still has his and uses it.

Yes it's Australian built. Since it's an auto I believe the engine was imported, the manuals were manufactured locally.

It's a metallic blue roof which isn't original.

It's a 1968 Morris mini matic. 998 auto. Australian minis had wind up windows and used external door hinges until the end of production in 1978. Mokes were sold until 1982, after that there were no minis or mokes sold here.

Someone has at some stage replaced the roof by cutting halfway on the pillars. This has introduced rust and there's bad rust in the gutter areas. It's not mine and I refuse to fix it until all my own mini projects are done. I will only do it properly which requires pulling it off the road which the owner doesn't want.

I have rebuilt a couple of these transmissions. Not many people will touch them and there are many incorrect stories about them. Many people don't even realise they are four speed, they assume three or even two.

Many Many Many years ago I used to sell a lot of used Mini 850cc automatics, they were all blue, maybe teal blue? rather gutless........................

Never seen a mini badged as 'Morris Mini Matic' before, was this a standard badge in Australia or a home made version?

I understood the last Australian minis were the Clubman front made into the early 80's?

It is and being used. Going through it for a long trip, found a few faults minor and major. Not taken it on the road yet but there's a huge pile of dirt out back of the farm.....

I’ve seen a couple of 20 year old ones recently,not a spot of rot and didn’t look restored. Mate had one as a farm vehicle,reckons it was better than his LR,plus if it did get stuck,was easier to move,could carry a few sheep as it only had a driver’s seat.

According to James May, the 4wd panda is what every French vineyard owner uses. He reckons, or did reckon, that it was the best 4wd vehicle you can buy.

A mate bought a Moto Guzzi V50 new in the 70's, within a couple of weeks there was rust appearing on the chrome indicator mounts

Mate bought a Volvo new ( years ago) took it back after two weeks cos the door mirror fixings were rusting through the paint.
