If you have an infection it's common enough for the local anaesthetic to be ineffective, certainly in my case it doesn't work.A sore mouth, went to a dentist today for an emergency appointment. I've had a broken tooth for a while but the pain was getting bad so almost no sleep last night. Into the chair and got x-rayed, dentist declared that there wasn't enough tooth to save so it would have to come out. Ok says I and by the way I am almost phobic about the injections, no problem she says we'll use this numbing gel first and you'll hardly feel a thing. She lied, I could feel every prod of the needle as it bounced off my teeth and gums. Then after a short wait she reckoned I wouldn't feel anything while she had a poke around, eventually after 2 more syringes full of anesthetic she goes to work on the tooth. I am resistant to local anesthetic it would seem, it hurt a lot and she had to stop, so I've been given a weeks worth of Amoxicillin as she thinks there is an abscess under the tooth and another appointment to be tortured again.
