We acquired a log burner. Had a little fire last night to cure the paint on it.

I'm not decided if I like the false chimney. I'm tempted to get rid of it and just have a panel of rustic brickwork up the wall. Not sure if the flue stuck up the front of it will look great though.

It might look better once it's plastered and painted to match the room...

That's the dog's duck It's the only toy she doesn't rip to bits.

Yeah, I plan to fit a timber beam across it. The local farm auction regularly has bits of old timber/beams that will do the trick.
The company that fit it would only put a resin look-alike beam on there. They look fairly good, but i'd know it's not the real thing!

There's a minimum distance from the fire for combustible materials.
Mines 440mm and is compliant.

This one doesn't state a minimum so reverts to HETAS/Building Regs which is 750mm as I recall The lads fitting it said no problems just to put it along the top of the opening so that's where its going.

Get one of the tapered screw type slide hammers for removing the stuck injector seals , that can be a b#**#d to remove sometimes

Today I acquired the knowledge that
after you have taken down the florescent fitting that has been fitted to the garage ceiling for over 27 years,
it is a good idea to wash your hands before handling your new LED panel.

I now have LED illuminated paw prints on one of the new panels...

A shiny van:




One of my truck driving mates has started his own detailing business and as the camper conversion is moving on apace I thought I'd give the outside some love. There was some reasonably heavy rusting on the passenger door, courtesy of the muppets who recently fitted the windows and didn't clean up the jigsaw swarf, and on the bonnet, courtesy of me not watching where the sparks were going from a recent session cutting flat bar with a slitting disc , but no more. The difference in before and after is night and day, and the clay bar routine has cleaned all the paintwork.

There's a few dings and scratches on the van but considering she's 9 years old and I'm the fourth owner, I'm very pleased with how she looks now, and it's nice to help out a mate.

I used to save my pocket money to buy railway modeller in the 60's and read them cover to cover a few times.

I have a lot of those that my Dad got from somewhere when I had my layout set up, back when I was in school. There's a 4' pile of RM in this stuff, some of them fairly new, and the rest are a mix of some I've heard of, and some I haven't. I've just put them out of the way, for now.

I do, but I am in New Zealand. As much as I woudl love to have a holiday in Europe to personally deliver it, I can't get the time off (or money) at present - otherwise you could have it.

Most of the time they come out easily but when you get a stuck one they work in seconds . I reduced the length of mine as it was originally too long to get under a scuttle panel , think the vehicle was probably French?

A small mower from the tip before it got handed over. Topped up with oil as chap had emptied it for travel. New fuel hose and starter handle and we're away! Just need to replace the starter cord on the free flymo next.
