Can you ever have enough tools?

-machining
-metrology
-electrical
-hydraulics
-mechanic
-power tools
-engine driven welder
-generator
- half air compressor
-power equipment
In all those there are the related tools needed to maintain them
There's very little things I cannot do on my own really and that's the point

Have you got any taps, you haven’t mentioned any of those in a while

Most of my more recent tool purchases have been house restoration related.
I mean who doesn't need a Wacker plate, log splitter, chainsaw, generators, con saws, strimmers, plasterboard sanders, compound mitre saw, rail saw, handfulls of Bosch drills, saws, impact gun, tig welder, mig welder, lathe, car diagnostic tools, acro props, ladders etc etc?

I must get a con saw soon, window in the back of the garage needs making into a double door for better access to the garden......more tools...

I've stopped buying tools now, although it'll probably start again as soon as I have time to kit out my new home workshop
The main workshop has plenty of gear, i don't think I've bought anything much for ages. Especially not hand tools.

Space or lack of it seems to be the biggest problem most toolists face,normally end up with workshops so rammed with gear there is no workspace. A fathomable separate storage system is key and travel light on the tooling within the workspace. I have been reorganising the workshops and its amazing how much gear you find yourself dancing around that really doesn’t need to be in there.

Totally agree, hence me also sorting out the workshop and a possible new shed, I'd prefer a barn but one must be realistic....

I've been spending a bit of time of late organising the workshop. It's only 5' wide, so I need to be creative with its layout. I've added a bit of extra shelving/storage where I could, made a spot where I can swap around & site the current benchtop machine in use, etc.

I sold my last rebuilt surplus con saw a few days ago. I don't intend to buy any more unless a really fresh and cheap project Stihl appears locally

I'm holding onto my 2x fuel injected TS480i and TS500i con saws. There are a couple of those on ebay UK cheap at the moment if anyone is interested but need work. (No affiliation) Fuel injected ones are the pick of the bunch.

Never heard the term "chain drilling" before - but its a perfect description.

I cheated a little , I burnt the thin webs through using my plasma cutter .

I think I may get an air fed die grinder & decent set of burrs once my new mancupboard is sorted & sorting the not starting problem that has recently happened to my refurbished five months ago compressor .

A 9 inch angle grinder, 2 meter spirit level. Block of cut square wood , brickies 4 inch bolster & lump hammer and a long masonry drill . Set the block toget a right angle hole through both skins use level to mark the verticals draw the lines and disc cut from both sides chain drill the lowest parts and chop downwards with a bolster to achieve a clean, smooth wall.
Don't forget regs require a DP membrane against the cut brick to seal the cavity & keep out water ingress if it is a cavity wall .

Have you head room for an over croft type shelf to store long stuff and anything else that will fit the gap that still give you head room clearance ?

I once had the use of a partitioned off area of an already small motor service garage. It was long but thin, maybe 7' wide, luxury compared to you but as you know once its filled with stuff its tight. Do you do that dance thing that involves just enough movement to get to where you need to be without whacking arm or leg on something on the way? I beat myself up for a while before becoming economic with my movements.

I'm into dies right now, but I've found some M80 taps I might include in my collection .
I'm now going to few interesting things in those days.
Some are needed others are bit for projects etc

How can you ever have too many tools, when you can pick up a couple of step drlls up to 32mm in Lidl for £4.99....
To be fair, I just resisted the 20v grinder as I reasoned I never seem to be too far away from power to use one of my many 240v ones.....

cant beat the easy pulling the battery on off the shelf and go where ever you need


240v volt stuff i use now is the heavy suff large breaker cement mixer i had to break up a small amount of cement flooring today and out come the makita 18v hammer drill with the chissel yes prob took a bit longer then the 240v drill but i was at the front of the garrage yes i could use the 240v but the time getting the leads out would have taken twice as long

You lot are rank bloody amateurs, GET_A_GRIP lads. You need to dispose of tools properly. Just recently I started listing tools in the for sales section, I had a 300mm digi caliper there that I let go for not a lot of money, Because I reasoned as I hadn't used it in (literally) years I let it go. Instant regret, but not to worry, I bought another today. In fact, today I bought a whole raft of tooling from a toolmaker who is retiring, more than I could use in a lifetime really, but I will try:-) So you sell a tool for a tenner because you want to downsize and then immediately replace it with a more expensive one. Can't go wrong, can it?

Usually, when I get rid of a tool, Or Material, Consumable or,err, anything really. Sods law will dictate I need the bloody thing five minutes after it goes out of the door!

I spent a lot of time last year getting rid of "stuff" that was no use to me.

Sold some, gave some away, scrapped some, and I now have a workshop that's easy to keep tidy and is more productive than it's ever been. Work benches are usable because they're not covered with "stuff" that I don't use, and every tool I need is stored in a logical and sensible place where I can get to it without thinking, and without having to wade through piles of junk.

Given the "why wouldn't you have seven cordless drills???" type of mentality that's prevalent on this forum, it baffles me that some posters seem proud of the fact that they waste money on tools that they don't need and will in all likelihood never use, so my answer to the op is a resounding yes.

M80 ? Why ???

Big Emuge M80 taps set
Let's say that I would need to repair a damaged thread I cannot bring to a lathe.
Big taps and dies are exactly for those things.
Air impact failed to remove bolts from an excavator hammer at work today.
I've took my big 3/4" cordless impact from the trunk and loosened the bolts.
One resisted so on Monday it will encounter my GEDORE RAHSOL torque multiplier.
Sometimes owning the right tool for the job places you in an advanced position in your workplace.
That's why today my boss promoted me to 3rd on the chain of command right after him and his son.
I'm kinda tempted to buy a diesel Genset 250A engine driven similar to my 170A gasoline one
