Part 2.

All 8 bolts and studs had to be drilled out. The Odd gasket sealant was removed with a off the shelve gasket material.
It was slow.

Just some of the rust.

The remains of the pipe, RHS, was not going to shift.

A cut was made and two hard wood wedges spread the cut and it was removed.

The Body was cleaned up, the label fell off and was then soldered back on.

The fixings had to be removed. drilled out as much as I could, then the body was warmed up to spit bubbled and a brass stepped punch was used to drift the remains out.

When the brass was being attacked Citric acid attacked the rust.

This shows how thick the gasket material was and how much rust was still falling off.

Drying the parts. Ech part was dried on the stoves. Then dropped into a box of silica crystals, before paint.

Grat issue of a fixing being drilled out.

Before being punched out. You can see rust reforming at this stage.

So when all the parts were dried, a good going over with a wire brush in a grinder.

A bit of a church pew being reused.

this bugged me from the start. When I got the pump this was covered in paint. When the paint was removed, it had been fixed upside down.
When trying to refit it, the curve of the manufactures label did not fit the curve of the body, plus the lead solder marks indicated it had been this was for a long time.

The Fixings are imperial, for those interested. 1/2" UNC.

Yes it could pump water, as a new cup washer was fitted.

The Bowl was far to thin to weld, I invested in so Hob nobs and asked a friend if it could be tig welded. It could be, but it would be very costly.

Surely brazing would have been a better process for fixing the bowl than Tig?

OE is meant to be OA.
The flange and the bowl were brazed up.
But went setting off the flash, micro craks could be seen in the bowl.
Hence why the falnge, the bown, the vice and the gloves were Glass fiber,

Oxy-ethyne welding, AKA oxy acetylene.

That is why we brazed it.

The friend who was asked is going to be TIG welding a few cast iron seat frames.

I would think it’s more likely that the bolts were Whitworth rather than UNC, very similar though TYA.

I've Tig brazed some cast recently, for the hell of it, but I've more faith in OA brazing.

They came out of the bag marked UNC, the whit bag of fixings is in the play pen, some where.

This came my way.
I had no idea if it worked or not.

It had good batteries, well good in there day.

Made in 2008.

The insides have many components similar to the real thing.

Opening it up showed that the lifting gear had failed.

Marked in red.

Tested and working.

Renault Master starter decided to commit hari-kari whilst we were over an hour from home last Saturday. I managed to bump start it and get home, then got it on ramps on the drive before switching it off, then set aboylut removal.

The damned thing isn't easily accessible - you have to remove the air intake and throttle body first (which are behind the radiator accessed from below), then after you get the 3 bolts out (the easiest bit) you find there's an OTT moulding and clip assembly that wraps around the solenoid, making getting the main live off and getting the motor out if a confined space a royal PITA.

Got a new starter today, and tackled the job tonight as it was at least dry weather. Suffice to say that getting it back in there was a lot more grief than getting the swine out! But - the camper is back up & running

Today I fixed an air drill that I first took apart years ago.
It ran but the front bearings were completely shot.

It's not surprising the bearings were shot as it had been used to drill 8mm holes in concrete underwater.
I turned it into a wet core drill by adding a water inlet so cut down wet diamond cores could be used.
It worked and they installed over 100 fixings for a fish pass.
I cleaned it out and oiled it after each use.

I took it apart to see what bearings it used and ordered a new set from Simply Bearings

Cleaned and oiled everything with airline oil (Kill Frost)

And reassembled

Works a treat now.
The copper pipe on the exhaust was so a pipe with a float could be installed to direct the air bubbles away from the divers.

The next pile of bits will give me something to do tomorrow evening.

I'm not a biker but I really like that bike to look at. Futuristic styling and a black and orange colour combo.
