Classic car. Why do I even want one ?

According to the date stamp, I took this pictrure on the 3rd of Feb last year. I use mine all year round and as you say, all part of the fun.

BTW, I suspect like yours, mine also has no heater!

Love all these 20s, 30s type motors, but missed the boat as regards getting one now as theyre all mad money these days.
My only transport is in fact a 60s land rover, though I'll likely get the Morris minor back I sold to a mate a year or two back.

If I remember correctly, they used Triumph uprights and of course brake calipers machined to fit. On Triumphs, there's a brake disc shield trapped under the calipers - so every car that uses those uprights and calipers, but not the shields needs thin spacers to place the calipers correctly. You might confuse them as washers - but they are spacers of a specific thickness. My Caterham uses them with no problems, as does my trials car.

Not in the case in question, without any spacers the caliper was hard against one side of the disc needing to be moved over by a good 1/4” or more. All of the brake components were new as supplied by Marcos . The ally caliper mounting bracket should have been redesigned to centralise the caliper.

You'll get a good useable Morris 8 for less than 10k, a 70's Mk1 Escort will be 10 - 50k! (that 10k buys you a project Mk1 BTW!)

I was surprised to see the MG TC at 15k to 20k. Last time I was interested in them was the early 90s and they were getting on for 30k.

E-types are coming down in price too. I'm playing the waiting game.

I owned a Stratos replica for a while 20 odd years ago - very close to an original (panels are rumoured to fit) and it was interesting with a single car garage and a narrow drive.

Too many cars. Not enough space. It spent a lot of time parked, I spent same amount of time working in America. Do wonder about doing it again . . . But my new trials car has spent two years simply sat on stands due to sorting my mum out with care home etc. enthusiasm is low.

But integrale gearbox dropped off this afternoon. Engine to check over and tidy up.

If we were forced to only have one car, I think that integrale would be it. Used to be my daily driver, as did the one before it

Thats not cheap as chips ! 10k is outrageous money to me. 5 to 6k is the absolute most I would want to spend. For vehicles that no one wants, that is a lot of money.

As for the idiots who would pay 10k plus for an Escort, they need their lumps read. Not even nice.

one of the best things about driving classics is how small they are! being able to park in smaller spaces and fit through smaller gaps with traffic is a dream. Jumping into the 205 from the jag is night and day. (Also the slight difference being 6x the power )

Yes, stop buying them. They're all terrible. Especially old Porsches, TR7's, Lotus Elans, and 60's Mustangs. I need the bottom to drop out of those markets asap.

I had a drive of a Riley One Point Five at the weekend, and I really, really liked it. Quaint and old fashioned, quite nippy, small and fun to drive round the local roads.

Look, no one said anytyhing about affordable.

And yes, perhaps people do need their lumps read. But compared to other stuff on the market, 10k is cheap. If you want a piece of 70/80's Ford RS, you'll be paying 50k upwards for the right car. Italian exotica? high seven figures.

If you don't want to pay 10k, then don't, it's your choice. But 5-10k for a 30's useable classic is relatively inexpensive.

I once sold a Mk1 RS1600 (yes, BDA) for £2000. makes my head hurt if I think about it now, my last RS2000 I sold for £1500 and it had ALL the right bits on it.

Oh man, I feel your pain.

I sold my Mk1 Mex in '85 for £895, regretted it at the time and even more so now.
