So a guy just up the road is a handy guy to know as he has a small tractor, a couple of plant trailers, various bits of handy garden machinery, BUT he also has a 1971 Morris Minor Traveller, looks half tidy, but it failed the MOT and he cannot find anyone who wants to weld it up, so stupid here said well my car lift is empty right now, let's pop it up in the air and take a look.............. we removed the stainless steel sill cover...............

he can pay for the repair panels, I will supply labour, then he can be my Bi++h for months/years and do some of the garden / hedge jobs I hate! He was looking at scrapping it as two garages have looked at it, one had it for 3 weeks only to tell him it was not something they could do, the other side will need doing in a year or two as will the rear of the chassis, may have a gardener for life!

That is what he has been paying for over the years, alloy plates screwed on and the hit with the schutz gun, even his new wings are brown primer on the edges and insides....... criminal, he has had work done every mot...............

You can buy all those panels to repair it with no patching to do. Its pretty easy really as rust repair jobs go.

But I wouldn't do it, purely because he will welch out of doing much gardening, as how do you "price" it ? One hour of your labour for one of his ? With all the panels, the welding will not take that long. (I have done a couple) Will you be doing prep and paint too ?

Now I ALWAYS pay cash for any job I want doing and expect the same in return.....
if he's 1/2 a good mate he'll understand......

One big bill too many= uneconomical to repair + scrapped. How many last 20 years...

At 53 yrs old it looks bad & might cost a few £thousand to have "professionally" repaired.
But moggys are desirable (when fixed).

Why not offer to buy it off him for the residual value (scrap plus small sum, maybe)...
Then fix it at your leisure & when complete, offer to sell it back at the current market value?
He Could say no... then you do too...

Indeed. That’s why insurance has gone through the roof - what would have been a £400 component repair is now a £3,000 module replacement. What was a £2,000 set of panels is now a write off

It's been said already but how do you value the job / unexpected bits will be found - how to value those / how does he value your work / will you get what you expect or will he be too busy with other things - like driving his newly restored pride & joy
Agree a price and he pays cash, you pay him cash to do your garden if/when you want. everything works...

Plan B: can he get more stainless cover panels to hide the bits not covered by the stainless sill he already has

Panels on order, will only make small bits to join the new to old where required, will not be painting, will drown in old engine oil inside box members,
