Be aware that it is a traveller & the wooden frame at the back is fully structural, if the sills are that bad the tinworm will likely extend back under the wood. Taking that off & replacing it if its rotten which is a 99% possibility is a nightmare & horribly expensive. I got my pick up panels from Andrew Eggleton, good quality & good fits. With the availability of good panels its pointless patching these up. Good luck!

There's also a long lead time on the Ash frame kits, so you will have plenty of time to effect repairs to the steel work.

it just goes to show why cars over 40 years old still should have an MOT, because an old car has nice paintwork does not mean it is fit to be driven on the road

Well after nearly falling of my chair with laughter seeing those rotted sills.... if you dont like gardening and he is prepared to do hour to your hour seems like exchange is no robbery , expect to see in on your lift/yard for a long long long time though.hope you have no other work to do this summer/autumn ! good luck , and of course photo s /progress reports always good. cheers

Jag is progressing well if a little slowly, headlining is installed, some wood fitted along edges of headlining, rear screen next, then to build up all the doors, just ordered all four door panels and several mtrs of vinyl for the parcel shelf, bit in front of rear seat, kick panels etc, wood all varnished, MGA progressing, karchered the chassis and gearbox today,

That's a Minor pickup or van chassis. The Traveller is a monocoque. Pickup & vans rust badly too. My pickup's chassis was dead rotten with lots of birds***t welded patches when I bought it. The only long term solution on any car is to cut out and weld in complete new sections. The repair sections I bought were quite a good fit. the only problem was that with some of them I had to do a fair bit of fabrication before there was any good metal to weld to.

The wood is almost new on this side, just not attached to much................... the other side is a little soft................ but not going there this year.....

In my defence I had my moggy in the early 70's, it was a 1959 model and well rotten with some very sketchy repairs (including the aforementioned concrete chassis leg). It had an MOT

Indeed. That’s why insurance has gone through the roof - what would have been a £400 component repair is now a £3,000 module replacement. What was a £2,000 set of panels is now a write off

I understand the panels (my £4K Golf was repaired at a cost of (including hire car for 6 months while they couldn’t get parts from Europe) £16K on the other parties insurance). But would insurance pay out if (say) an engine fault repair exceeded the value of the vehicle? The closest I heard was someone in a Tigra who had a stone go through the radiator and seized the engine. Maybe in the Tesla age insurance companies have had to adapt?

I've long since tired of people quoting the cost of repairs outstripping the cars value being an excuse to scrap it. The relevant metric is surely the cost of suitable, known, replacement?
