That's really great work! I did try originally to do some tack welds, but it blew through and I think I started trying to overcompensate and join up holes. I should have cut a bugger section out to start with really. I think cleaning up the area left some of the existing metal way too thin.I'm by *no* means an expert but equally having jumped in at the deep end myself to fix a very rusty section of sill it's probably still relevant. IMO Those welds look far too big, it looks like you're trying to lay a continuous bead.
On stuff that thin you won't be able to lay any kind of "bead" down. You want more a continuous line of "tack" welds, each enough to penetrate through but you stop before it then blows through. Then obviously grind it back flush.
You don't mention what wire you're using but I would go for 0.6mm if you can, I would then take two pieces of 0.8mm sheet you're trying to weld and practice first so you can get the setting right.
