cheers rick il give more gas a crack altho i do think ive done it before but doing it purposefully to check wont hurt

whats the trick for getting the welds to look like that people ? every stainless thing ive done has gone a gray colour except for about an inch when i was having a practice once but cant think of any thing differnt that i could be doing ?

"You need more gas coverage, the gray colour is because the weld was still hot when the gas was removed from it.
Gas type is also a contributing factor, if you're welding austenitic stainless an argon/hydrogen gas and for all other materials argon/helium mixes will give generally you far "cleaner" welds
