and being tight is excuseable.
You don't get rich by chucking it about!
and being tight is excuseable.
I was having a pop at the 'Wannabe's ' and social climbers who consider image is the be all and end all.I've known a few genuinely wealthy individuals who drive basically just above bangers. Not that they're tight, they just don't like to show it off.
And yes, turning up at the Lord Lieutenant's Ball in a thirty year old car didn't raise any eyebrows, as they were known.
If you're rich, you're just eccentric, not daft or mad - and being tight is excuseable.
To me a car is a way to cart you & what you need to move from A to B without getting wet.
I don't need a car as some sort of validation of my status, prestige or manhood. It's just transport.
One young woman who worked in the office for a while was I'm sorry to say, an example of just how daft so many people have become.I was having a pop at the 'Wannabe's ' and social climbers who consider image is the be all and end all.
Being image-obsessed is a terrible and expensive afflictionShe's probably driving round on bald tyres with no servicing too...
I see these kinds as stupid and not something I'd look up to, the opposite in fact.
Its this sort of thing that scares the hell out of me to get anything newish!!Here's a nice modern car repair for a friend.
Merc a160 auto gearbox 722.6, pull of in first excessive clutch slip, lurches in to second followed by a big F on the dash.
Fault code, excessive or lower pressure in clutch solenoid "y3/7y1"
Quick Google using the correct terms we discover the clutch basket is known to split.
First front of, drop subframe and engine as a unit

Strip the gearbox of the engine and split the case
View attachment 398354
Remove the k1 clutch and install a replacement
Here is a what the basket looks like with a puff of air in the inlet side
View attachment 398355
See that ring of atf along the crack, the secret to a proper repair is to confirm the suspected fault, if you can't recreate it you probably haven't found it.
Car test driven all good
All in all, once you know how to get the subframe out the job is pretty simple.
i know a few like it grand daughter no idea about the car tried to teach her how to check the oil water tyres etc all i got my dad does thatBeing image-obsessed is a terrible and expensive affliction![]()
Becoming the norm I'm afraid.i know a few like it grand daughter no idea about the car tried to teach her how to check the oil water tyres etc all i got my dad does that

No worse than any vehicle, things break they need fixingIts this sort of thing that scares the hell out of me to get anything newish!!
Well my Kuga has just done a brain-fart coming home from one of many hospital appointments. Engine malfuction. Drove a further 25 miles with the equivalent of a moped engine's exceleration. Got home ODBII gave error 2265 supercharge.turbo error. I cleared it and now no errors.....until....??
Might have the wrong code as p2265 equates to water in fuel??? My Fordscan app says turbo which sounds correct with the symptoms?
I agree. But suspect it might be a glitch. Had similar with ABS, which cleared. Today I'll know for sure. You are probably in limp home mode which is to prevent further damage.
Sticking turbo actuator possibly?Well my Kuga has just done a brain-fart coming home from one of many hospital appointments. Engine malfuction. Possibly. Running fine now. Stressed it and not re-occurred. 17 miles. Couple of hesitations prior to the fault. Want it to tow caravan 300m through mid Wales. Live dangerously?Sticking turbo actuator possibly?
There's often much to recommend a quick "boy racer service".Possibly. Running fine now. Stressed it and not re-occurred. 17 miles. Couple of hesitations prior to the fault. Want it to tow caravan 300m through mid Wales. Live dangerously?
Done 100miles today at speed and loading and nothing went wrong..I like the notion of a sticking turbo vane......I'll have quick look if there's a spanner jammed in it or such.....There's often much to recommend a quick "boy racer service".
Thrape the thing hard through the gears, get the revs up, get it working hard - give the thing a good clear out.
E.g. you hear lots of Ducato type motorhomes getting all kinds of running problems (EGR's etc) - that don't afflict the same base unit in the commercial van variant.... & its cos the van has to work while the MH gets cosseted.
