A couple hardy Soay Sheep in electric fenced off sections to eat everything in the square before moving them on to the next area to be shortened , at least you can eat them ( brill for BBQ meats & stews & they fit in the chest freezer nicely .

I have to use 36 inch hig raised brick built beds for my veg & flowers due to being crippled . Went away on Friday morning came back Sunday afternoon , looked at the onion beds Monday morning to find them covered in inch tall weeds . There is no way I could ever have bent over & weeded them as the awayday weekend has wrecked me in my shoulder and spine ,. So had a play in the mancupboard using some old rusting bright steel and a blunted ground to shape Stanley knife blade

Today I made an adapter so I could use an aluminium pot on my SRi spray gun.

I want to try to spray some Cerakote and they recommend you use an alloy pot on the gun.
My SRi gun has a 0.8 tip so I'm going to spray using it, however
Devilbiss alloy pots are expensive and as I already had a cheap pot so I made this to make it fit.
Devilbiss also like to use odd threads but I had something hopefully close enough (1.5 X 11)
The other end is 1mm X 14.
It will be a bonus if it doesn't leak.

When you make the blade make the U a bit like a horse shoe so only the sides of the rod touch the plant .

Use mole type grips to safely & firmly hold the Stanley knife blade , grind the blade so the inside cutting edge is actuallyoing to be inside the horse shoe legs , round the edges a tad too and give it a kiss on the soft grind stone to take the cutting edge to 0.5 mm wide other wise it will be too sharp . . I forced the hack saw cut to in the vice . then set it up to receive the blade .. Using a block of hard wood grain across the blade and a hammer I knocked the blade into the depth of the hack saw cuts .

There will also be a three tined rake made in a similar manner with the shaft terminating in an L and becoming the middle tine of the three pronged rake . The horseshoe outer frame still applies and this time before bending and welding round off the ends so that they do not rip / cut your crops.


Once you get the top inch or so friable ( dry and crumbly ) a quick rake through once a week to ten days will stop newly germinated seeds developing into fully rooted weedlings .

The beginnings of an oversize horseshoe,it’s 25mm round,some radii variations required,customer has requested a pair of shoes,4’6” tall,then another 18” smaller to go symmetricalally inside,2 sets.
Size 9 shoe for scale.

I bought a new heavy duty flywheel puller for the Minis but it came in a cardboard box and I didn’t want to stuff it in the bottom of my toolbox so I made a proper case for it.

The tray for the puller pieces is 1.2mm mild and the body is folded .8mm mild steel then I pilfered the fittings from and old wurth hardware box.

Visited No 2 daughter yesterday to be greeted by the dreaded " Dad the mower has stopped" It's that time of year again. Took it back to base and found this just for starters. What there was left of it looked like cross between Molasses and yellowish fairy dust in suspension. Don't they ever listen.

Made the lawns shorter this lunch time , it made realize I'm going to have to sharpen the battery lawn mower's cylinder blades whilst they are still in the cassette frame.

The Allison manual says I ought to be able to do three or four such self sharpening's before the cylinder needs a proper truing up regrind.

I did some field mowing at our place in Alna, ME over the last few days. I don't enjoy mowing the lawn around the house, but I really don't mind mowing the fields. There seems to be a kind of 'zen' about it, and it's strangely satisfying to watch each pass of the rotary cutter turn the chaos of weeds and tall grass into a nice tidy swath. I've always liked the contrast of a newly-mown field against the surrounding trees. The weather was nice, the trees are just starting to bud out, and the fields should start to green up soon. Spring is here!

(As you can see by the activity in the foreground, we're having a new leach field installed for the septic system. I decided I have too many other things to work on, so I hired a local contractor to install the leach field per a plan made by a licensed septic system designer. The temporary black 'silt fence' is a requirement for this excavation work.)

I'm currently rejuvenating the driveway at our Alna house. The drive was starting to get muddy as the fines in the crushed stone worked their way to the surface over the past dozen or so years. I scraped off the top layer with my front-end loader to get back down to more solid material, and I'm now in the process of spreading 90 cubic yards of "ledge pack" (crushed stone with fines, taken from a single ledge, so that the color and texture is consistent). It packs very solidly and doesn't shift around. After I get it spread more or less evenly, I plan to use my landscape rake to smooth and level the surface.

Here's one of the five loads of 'ledge pack' that was delivered for the driveway:

In preparation for smoothing the drive, I did a minor overhaul of our landscape rake. I took the gauging wheel assemblies apart, grit blasted the rusty rims/brackets/forks, primed and painted the parts, installed new tires/tyres and new rim bolts, touched up the orange paint a bit, and greased the swivels and hubs. Now I don't want to get it dirty!

It will probably take me a few days to put the driveway in proper order.

Battery adaptor wired up. Cuts much better than the smaller fakita, but I think would be improved if I swap the 1/4" bar and chain. The sprockets are different shaft size so I will need to find one.. for 12mm dia with 9mm driving flats.

Added some laths to the base of the latest bench yesterday, & popped that little compressor in what should hopefully be its permanent spot.



Also fitted a new mains lead to that compressor. Original was only around 5' long, so changed it to a longer length of rubber sheathed cable, & uprated it from 1.0mm to 1.5mm core cable, to allow for the extra length.
