You would need a new vfd if you want it to run 240v in. You would also have to check the motor is dual voltage
Re the VFD, I hacked an ABB to think it has 480v (within its spec) when run from 240 - if it's out of warranty you only need worry about 1) whether it has the (usual) two banlks of reservoir capacitors and 2) whether it has phase loss sensing* that'll shut it down. The actual mod (if 1) is ok) costs a few pence, but needs a drill and a soldering iron among your tools, and a brass bolt, washers and nuts... It does invalidate all approvals, possibly causes a bit of radio interference, may contribute to Gerbil Warming for all I know! The reservoir capacitors have a bit of a harder time, usually when they get a bit "end-of-life" it'll start throwing up undervoltage alarms so you know when to order a set of replacements....So the chippie has arrived today and to my surprise is already fitted with a siemens micromaster inverter, the problem is its wired for 400v-in and 400v-out anyone no much about wiring them for 240v-in?

Interesting ... 240v to 480v transformer on the input or voltage doubler with caps & diodes?Re the VFD, I hacked an ABB to think it has 480v (within its spec) when run from 240
Assuming two reservoir capacitors in series to make the rating (very common!), find the common point where + of one joins - of the other, find a nice big area of copper connected, apply the neutral (I put a 2BA brass nut and bolt through a drilled hole, soldered to the copper,, then a ring terminal and washer and nut) - the bridge rectifier will do the voltage doubling for you, charging each cap to around 320v (peak) but only for half a cycle (wise to take live to two of the phase inputs as it's kinder to the rectifier diodes) - hence they have a bit of a harder life! The ABB I hacked is rated for 5HP, motor power is 3HP, so far no problemsInteresting ... 240v to 480v transformer on the input or voltage doubler with caps & diodes?
Is that connection diagram for the vfd?The Motor is duel voltage and the input looks to be both single phase and 3 phase input

@addjunkie yea it's inside the casing, but I've a feeling it's the one diagram for for both units I.e either the 3phase or single phase. Is that connection diagram for the vfd?
Id be looking for a manual for what you have, before buying another with a 240v input. And Id not be running a lathe at 3000rpm until I was fully sure what I was doing. The crashes are always bigger at speed with cars, bikes and lathes@addjunkie yea it's inside the casing, but I've a feeling it's the one diagram for for both units I.e either the 3phase or single phase.
I've got the manual, I don't think it will be of any use to me tbh, I'll have a buddy that works around 3phase industrial setups take a look for me.Id be looking for a manual for what you have, before buying another with a 240v input. Wedge style aloris copy or multifix are the only way to go imho.
Wedge style aloris comes from either rdg or chronos. And the fake multifix come from AliExpress. As you are recommending these to him, could you suggest sources from which he could obtain them. In particular, in recent years, the Multifx stuff has been hard to obtain at a reasonable price. We do not want to send him off looking for a white elephant.
...4 jaw from RDG
Sell the dickson to someone with more money than sense on ebay, and buy yourself a wedge type - that's a decision made for you right thereI think I'm going to buy a few T1 holders and a 4 jaw from RDG to get me going, I'm at my wits end looking and not knowing what's the best economy tooling ect it's an absolute minefield out there
And don't even start me on cutters ect
Im not a fan of the Dickinson either……Sell the dickson to someone with more money than sense on ebay, and buy yourself a wedge type - that's a decision made for you right there.... p.s, you're welcome
I might have to do thatSell the dickson to someone with more money than sense on ebay, and buy yourself a wedge type - that's a decision made for you right there.... p.s, you're welcome
