Temperature sender for the JCB. First times I've the temperature gauge move since I've owned it.

And also replaced the fuel shut off solenoid. Old one when I pulled it out disintegrated, I replaced it because it had started leaking.

So, my neighbour, Nina, brought her little top-handle chainsaw around yesterday coz it wasn't starting. After a bit of investigation it turns out that she (or someone) had put the mix in the oil tank and chain oil in the petrol tank. "Beggar", says I, imagining I will have to strip the carb and clean the oil out. Anyway, I clean out the petrol tank and oil tank, bang new mix and oil in and give it a few pulls. Nuttin. Take the filter off and squirt a little easystart (actually electrical cleaner coz had it to hand) and it fires and dies. After a few iterations of this I'm resigning myself that it's gonna be a carb strip and clean when floating back into hazy recall came whisps of a response one of the forum members posted on a thread about starting chainsaws that had been left with fuel in at the end of the season. So I pumped away at the primer for a bit, closed the choke, opened wide the throttle, gave it another squirt of go-juice, pulled the cord and roooaaar! It started and ran.

Mig-welding-forum for the win! Can't remember who posted the comment but whoever it was, blessings on you and your progeny! (sorry, no pics).

Fibreglass crack in 30 year old deck of boat, a gunwale in English ?

Water leaking onto bed below.

You can see the cracks, chiseled out after being angle ground.

Dead rotten balsa extreme right of photo, honeycomb stuff guled in with epoxy resin and silica micro spheres. Weighed down with pot of resin and dead deep cycle AGM battery.

Sanded down flat, 3 coats of fibreglass matt, done in one go 0.75 litres of resin or so.

Sand it down again, slap semi reinforced mastic putty on it.

That got sanded down, then fine mastic putty, which too got sanded down.

No photo of that it would seem has disappeared.

Followed by some single pack paint with non slip additive added to it, which is like rollering on lumpy custard.

No masking up, as it sticks out like a sore thumb, so I 'try' to blend in the repair.

Well, six odd hours kneeling on a pontoon, it was sunny, mainly in mask, eye mask, and all, that, had to be done today, rains coming tomorrow.

Sounds like the clutch master cylinder on my TT. On a LHD car, it's dead easy. On RHD, however, not so much. Factory workshop manual doesn't even mention it, probably because they're published by an American company.

The yellow cap is the (undone) fluid reservoir, the clutch master is just down and to the right of that as you look at it.

going to guess it was similar to a R11 cable - maybe not the gearbox end, but the under dash end, getting the thing straight and un-stressed . . . probably explains having to replace it again 18 mths later.

However, getting the pin back in the clevis around the pedal on a Lancia integrale usually involves supergluing it to the end of your finger . . . not too well of course

Looks like the access to the brake master cylinder on a RHD Alfa 159 V6 - I can see the bleed nipples, I can even just get a spanner on the front one and crack it a touch . . . the rear one however . . . I've had the scuttle apart, the wiper mech out, jacked the engine around, and still can't get to it well enough. Even bought a sidewinder ratchet to attempt it better - and then discovered you still need to flick the lever on the ratchet head to reverse direction, so back to square one . . . now contemplating one of those chain drive sideways extensions . .

It might be similar, it's stuck behind the back of the engine (exhaust manifold?) right against the bulkhead. Total pig of a job.
This was my missus sisters boyfriends car done many years ago in a Tesco's carpark.
As for the 18 monthly replacements, yes that exactly how long they last! Two of my mates had one (the same car) and that's how long they last.
That one also had intermittent starting, the started motor would get too hot next to the exhaust and refuse to turn. Utter tosspot of a car.

This had been growing in the wall.

About another 100 to go.

This was my missus sisters boyfriends car done many years ago in a Tesco's carpark.

Original lasted a decade. Snapped mid gear change on the way to work up the hill out of Bailiff Bridge - its a bit steep, so forward momentum was rather rapidly decreased until I managed to get a gear, any gear. Parked carefully at work, bump started it by rolling downhill, drove home carefully that night.

What did surprise me, was my sister had the car after me, and her mechanically useless husband (now ex .. ) managed to change the next one at the side of the road outside their house.

My Renault used to suffer fuel vapourising, but otherwise was a fantastic student, work commuting, club-motorsport vehicle that suffered a few sledgehammer and bottle jack with a bit of railway sleeper bodywork realignments over the years. Often think of it when I'm charging down some country lane in my integrale, or something modern from work, look down, and realise that 35 yrs ago in that old Renault I'd have been going 20-30mph faster! 466D blue - the same colour as the Renault 11 in A View to a Kill Bond film.

Afraid I cheat - flat chisel or even a tile removing chisel in an SDS drill on rota-stop. Cleans mortar off quicker, easier, less aching later if you drive a mouse more days than handle tools.
