Not acquired today but a few weeks ago as, for the last few months, I was off on a tangent that kept me away from visits to the forum. I've been commissioned to make the steelwork for small, decorative, mosaic-topped tables at my local men's shed. My Metalcraft roller/bender/riveter was just about up to the job but when bending the 10 x 10 legs, both the tool and me were struggling. Something eventually had to give . . . the thread on the screw-in handle on this occasion (pushed in and welded into position now but may not last long). To cut a long story short, I was able to persuade the shed and the 'clients' to split the cost of a Metalcraft XL5+ power bender. Without the 5 extras, this was retailing at £1299.99. Fortunately I visited the site while they were running a 20% 'Winter Sale' so the cost dropped to £1039.99. This is one of those times where size does make a difference: shearing, bending and rolling are much, much easier. I've already cut a couple of hours off the job time so the machine will pay for itself within months, and I'm not finishing the day with an aching back and the wish to just slump into an armchair for the rest of the day.
I toyed with the idea of also buying the pillar stand Metalcraft supply but balked a bit at paying an additional £129 so I spent a couple of days knocking up a pretty robust stand made from 40 x 40 x 5 angle as the photo below shows. Probably around a third of the cost and not a bit of movement other than in the tool itself.

A suspicious use of a German sounding name to give the impression of quality? Anyway one has already done an hour on the angle grinder with no noticeable wear,though the 800w machine shows up the out of balance with excessive vibration,the 600w one is perfect.
