No today but over the last few days these few bits have been acquired. Considering the combination through set was only £20+ postage it's not bad quality so far, time will tell!

I've had that very set in the van for about 3 years been very good with some hard use , been good for long threaded bar when bolting up joists etc mine were a tenner from either lidl's or aldi . Bought because I've never had any problems with Cresent stuff.

Thats good to hear cheers, it does seem a good ratchet, I'll give it a good test too doing much the same, threaded rod for hanging cable tray and brackets!

The only thing I would say is there's been times when I've been tempted to cut the adjustable end off as I'm sure you'll find out ..........

A tool/drawer cabinet should be able to support around 50kg easily enough? I'm assuming a fully loaded topbox could easily reach that type of weight?

I'd convinced myself I wouldn't open that box until the weekend. The respective parts seem decent enough, quality wise. May have to make a beefier wooden top for the tool cabinet though. This thing is bloody heavy.

Being left handed and blind in the right eye I don't think I could physically operate yours !

I think the left handed part would work out better for you with my set-up as it has you on the right side of the console.

As far as the eye, it's mainly used when finding the corner of the plate, so either will work.

You could take a cue from the large machine tools, and make a hanging pendant, so you can swing it to anywhere you need.

Various "tweaks" solving silly errors and bodges done to the thing over the last 38-years - and while the saw isn't going to look like a new one (I don't see the point in trying really - it's a tool) - it's looking like it might be essentially sound and usable, & I'm quite enjoying tinkering with it. Made several cuts on 25mm box and bits of flat bar - the blade is nasty, but otherwise its alright.

Was in the market for a a TIG machine to learn on, thought about starting with a DC only machine but i know i'm going to want to move to aluminium at some point, r-tech were giving out a 10% off coupon, and combined with 12 months interest free finance the temptation was too great to just get the biggest 240V AC/DC machine they had! By the time i added a foot pedal and assortment of filler rods I ended up saving just over £200. The sad part is i'm probably not going to get to use it for a few weeks till I can pick up some argon. Nothink quite like having a new toy and unable to play with it.

As much as criticism they have received, they are not bad for what they are, and can do.

I had a friend that had 3 of them in constant use in his fab shop.

He said that when your running multiples using the part stop, keep the machine working.

If you're welding away, and you hear the part drop, and the saw shut off, stop welding, and re-load the saw.

"Keep the machine working."

You'd be amazed how much these will cut in a day, even more if you bundle cut, run a simple bead down the stack (usually when cutting angle iron) at the waste end.

Contented myself today with making / folding a tool tray to replace the missing one on the Sealey Saw out of Galv Sheet (secondary task of which is to stiffen up the folded tin base/legs), while I wait for a saw blade with some teeth on it to turn up from Tuffsaws).
(Didn't take a pic, as frankly my fabrication skills aren't anything to write home about)

Paranoia about knackered worm drive gearbox set in about my newly aquired, 38yo Sealey SM5 after a warning - so decided to take a look before even cleaning it and any tinkering.
Removed the cover, and carefully eased off the (Cork!) Gasket to reveal as pic.
Not removed the old oil yet, but initial impression us that the worn drive and saw drive gear are OK.
(I doubt the gear hasn't been seen since the first time the cover was fitted - but at least it seems to have retained its SAE90).
I have some EP85-90 gearbox oil here somewhere - am I right in thinking that's fine to use?

I used 75-90 oil for Peugeot gearboxes so it is safe to use with the brass worm wheel.

Use a bit of instant gasket when refitting the lid - I didn't & it leaked around the bolts!

I do the initial setup using a 6" rule clamped to the blade with a clothspeg * & a square on the bed of the saw. I use a bit of 40x40 shs to do a test cut **, debur & check for square. You might have to tweak the blade guides by twisting them slightly to get it cutting vertically. Once that's correct I tweak the fences to get it square horizontally.
To fully test the accuracy of the saw do a cut, rotate the material 180 deg & cut off a 10mm slice. Debur & measure the thickness of the slice on the 4 sides. By rotating the bar you double any inaccuracy making it easier to measure.

* Clamp to the flat part of the blade, not the wavy cutting edge!

**Run a line in bright marker along the top of the shs to keep track of the orientation!
