pc problem loading windows 10

i recived a pc out of a skip

not going to be gaming on it more so for camera system

only thing wrong i can see is when you shut down windows properly using shut down off the windows menu it shuts down as should when powering on it gets passed the bios screen just at the point of starting to load windows (where you first get the black screen with the windows sign and before you see the spining dots under the windows sign it hangs there

ive tryed differant ram 2 differant harddrives and a diffirent power supply cheaked over conections on the board unpluged all the usb bits of the motherboard and had only board chip and ram with hd installed no differance once it hangs near every time you shut it down properly and then power it back up it loads and goes to windows fine and seams to work fine

anybody had this before ? or ideas

I'm confused because you mentioned shutting down.... does it work ok then won't reboot?

Had one like that first start would hang turn off not just re boot, would start
Turning mains off after using would not cure required that initial start hang it was a lap top though

battery fine and keeps date and settings ok

Reinstall windows.

it had no windows on it so its a new install twice as i put 2 harddrives in it

turn it on goes to windows then you turn it off power it backup again it frezzes jusat press the power butten to turn off again turn it back on and it loads to windows

could be getting hot, check the cpu heat sink and fan is on right

especially likely if it's been dropped etc.

you should really put new thermal past on it.... you could take it off and put it back with the old paste for now to test it

i dout its the problem but as ive tryed quite a bit all ready and im clutching at straws i will give it a go in the morning

it's a pretty well known fault behind restart problems

if that's not the problem you should make a boot usb and run memtest - maybe google exact cou/ram voltages/timeings etc. first and check they're right in the bios

A week or so ago I was dismayed to find my big stand alone which was updated when new to a top of the range spec at the time is an original windows 7 circa 2010 up dated to Win 10 is too old to sort out .

Now I cannot update it any more as windows 11 has come along it's not fast enough, the mother board is not right etc etc MS just keps kicking back to ther is a problem with your computer update it , then when I try says updating is no longer possible.
So I'm having to get rid of it and replace it with a more modern higher speed & capacity computer , I'm hoping I can use the screen as a monitor and send the data to it from a new second hand laptop.


I did wonder if UNBUTU could be employed but feel at 72 that my brain is getting too scrambled these day to carry it out and keep it updated.

Windows 10 is still updating, my desktop is 12 years old and still running fine on Windows 10. It did an update last week it's running windows 10 version 22H2. Just checked and there's a quality update available which it is now downloading. I've used Linux on a few old laptops and it is pretty good and very similar to windows, just a different system for installing new programs.

My desktop has Win 7, it's getting nothing. Slow as molasses, Too old to update.

well was going to try a win 11 upgrade see if it made any differance but even after using rufus it said uefi not supported so as its for a camera system im not going to go forward with that idea as if later microsoft decides to stop you using the work arounds we would thenhave problems

so back to seeing if its windows 10 that the problem or the pc


i even tryed a graphics card see if that made any diffarance and that a no as well

Seriously. Download Linux Mint. Burn to DVD and boot it from that. No need to install it just to try.
If it suits install if not nothing lost. 20yrs with Linux. Would never go back to MS.
But it's down to personal choice.

make a fresh boot usb


ohhhh you aren't trying to install 64bit windows on a 32bit system are you? that does what you're describing

what motherboard/cup/ram is it?
