The cupboard should be vented top and bottom , check regulations !

Gas guy came out a few days ago to fit me a new CH controller, I showed him my board of cups and he said no ventilation is needed, due to the design of the boiler. All venting and breathing etc is done through the concentric exhaust thing.

That's good!

I didn't know that for a long time either: it would mean that the therme (or whatever device) works independently of room air. The exhaust pipe is a coaxial pipe, so what it exhales it also inhales in fresh air from the outside - it does not consume the oxygen in the room air.

I know because it cuts my chimney sweep bill in half for that part, we have that in our house in Mecklenburg and the chimney sweep has sovereign duties in GER for fire protection and flue gas safety in houses.

I should have took some pics, I've a few more to cut so will try and remember, it wasn't too bad to knock off. For some reason 2mm is where I seem to get most dross.

Yes i get high speed dross at 2mm also. Difficult to remove.

What did I make today? A fool of myself !

we‘ve had several power cuts recently and it’s mucked up various time switches around the farm. There is one in particular that I needed working as it controls lighting around the two holiday cottages and is a safety issue.

now these switches have been pretty good in the past, are battery backed, and can theoretically stand several days loss of power, but this one hadn’t. I did a full reset and day one noticed that it both switched on and off at the wrong times. Ok second day another reset, time, date, year etc, simple program ( on 06:30 off 23:00) and again not switching at the right time, argh !

This evening I realised my error. Two identical time switches, one for the light, one for a pond water feature. .

. . . Oh yes, you’Ve guessed it, I have been fiddling with the wrong one. . . Plonker !

To make it easier to keep the die on the rod axis,rather than operating horizontal in a vice,plus my lathe doesn’t do reverse,so I can use a die as it’s a smaller quantity.

Today I made a bigger tool post for my shaper so I can use shaper tool holders instead of just bits of tool steel.

Untill a few weeks ago I didn't even know there was such a thing, but you learn something everyday on here.

The existing tool holder was too short to modify and I didn't want to butcher it anyway.
I could just cut down the tool holders, but if I didn't like making things more complicated than they need to be, I probably shouldn't be on this forum anyway.

Started with an off cut of inch and a half round bar from the scrap bin.
In hind sight it could have done with being half and inch longer.
Anyway turned it down to fit the clapper box and drilled and tapped it M10.

Turned it around and finished turning it to size.

Then drilled a few holes (badly) to remove some material for the toolholder.
Cut between the holes with a hacksaw.

Then cleaned up the mess with a die grinder and file.

The slot is far from perfect but it should do the job.

If your lathe is big enough you could grip the round bar sideways in a 4 jaw & chain drilled the holes, moving the bar along by moving only 1 pair of jaws. Better chance of getting the holes in line.

Dross I don't care about, but drag angle makes a less accurate part.
So you've got some grinding to do, if a chisel won't slide it off, but the grinding on the backside won't change the part dimensions.

Hard to remove slag is a problem if you making very artsy type pieces, with many inches of cutting, and accuracy is not paramount.

Nice job. Looks like you are ready to buy some more tool holders?

Now my finger's better, I was finally able to finish making this replacement flexible circuit board for the back of the dashboard in the Firenza, which means I'll have dash lighting again. It was a bit awkward having to wear leather gloves, but I'm not risking my finger again.

Yes, however the part you posted looks to need precision.
I'm just trying to help explain that you can change your speed, to get the precision you need for that part, disregarding the slag problem, and then go back to your "less slag optimized"
higher speeds for less accurate parts.
