It would be easier to geta dual volt motor and a inveter, around £120 and have fully adjustable speeds so no changing belts ?

Just found this motor int shed lol. Near same spec aswell.

But side mount so would need to make a new mount for iteither that or a dyal motor and VFD.

the motor is a 3 wire star 3 phase 410v motor.

A motor with the windings connected in Star has at any time, two 220V windings in series, so you need a 415V output inverter to drive it properly.

The 220V output inverters will only properly drive a 415v (nominal supply) motor wired in Delta, as it outputs 230V (nominal) between any pair of wires, since that's what each winding of the motor wants to see.

If you have a star/delta selectable motor you can run it from either, of course.

No you don't. It'll run quite happily at 380v. Maybe a slight torque reduction, but nothing that you'd likely notice.

I've tested 415v pumps running from my 240v VFD.

And if I read that sales blurb and spec of the drive you posted it was a 240 in 415 out - that means it will run a 415 3 phase motor. 380 to 415 is all the same, neither here nor there. And if you really want to, you can run your mill on a 240v output inverter, just lower top speed and torque, 38 Hz is fine. My Fritz runs this way, as does the big horizontal Richmond, not managed to star the windings yet.

Ahh, properly - now that's a word. Properly meaning at its rated torque. Correct. But it will run at less than its rated torque at lower voltage, and you can hear it losing synch and slowing down, so it does tell you. Luckilly a mill only needs high speed on small cutters, big cutters you gear them down. So with a big cutter take smaller cuts.

I have since done quite a few motors with the two most recent ones being the main motor for my Elliott milling machine's vertical head and the slotter.

It is well worth trying to dig the starpoint out on your motor so you can wire it to DELTA.

I asked how he was running on power.and he said an inverter. Didn't know he meant a transwave not a VFD

240>415 VFDs are pricey bits of kit.
Its always been cheaper to buy a new* 240 motor and 240>240 VFD

Get a 240v in, 4d15v out VFD if you can't change the motor wiring to delta. I have one on my little mill. Variable speed is so handy.

I have a chance at a Transwave, just checking on price he wants for it.
